I'll chime in with every one else. I have a Genie and almost never use it. I use Dr Neau as a TD most of the time, and I'd really only use the genie if I couldn't be bothered setting up the laptop. If the standard structure didn't use blinds, I'd probably use it more.

Also, I've adjusted the sound level by puttting a piece of tape over the speaker. Now it works perfectly.

i donated my poker genie to UW for charity... the poker genie was too loud and had a lame dedicated interface... not my usage model.

My laptop isn't much bigger or heavier than a Genie. I took it to a tournament I helped direct a couple weeks ago and hooked it up to the host's big screen with Tournament Director all pimped out. Everyone could see it easily and no one ever asked what level we were on.

I think you need a third choice. Like, "I can take it or leave it".

I like mine. I got it in a group buy so didn't pay full price but I think I would buy one at full price anyway. I mainly use Dr Neau Tournament Manager on my laptop but it does lock up sometimes so I use the Genie as a back-up. I use it for additional games after my league game when I don't have time or want to set up TM again.

I use a set structure for nearly all my games so once I have it set up I'm good to go. But when I do want to use it for a different structure it is a bit of a hassle to set up quickly (I don't use the built in settings). I normally know when I need to do this ahead of time so it's not really a big issue but if I could pick one improvement it would be to be able to have more than one custom set-up stored in it and be easier to load it(I guess thats 2 things )

As others have said, it is loud but I don't have a problem with that. My larger games have players in different rooms of the house so the volume means everyone can hear it. They can be modified if you are electronically inclined or a piece of tape helps tone it down.

I don't think the Genie will be better than your laptop but I say the more toys, the better.

I actually use MeridianTournamentPro 1.0 which I'd be happy to sell you cheap. It's four 11X17 pieces of paper with the blind structure printed on 'em and the egg timer from my kitchen. This has worked successfully for many years, is very flexible and has never crashed, though once the blind poster near the kegeator got wet when a certain player spilled his beer all over it.

[threadjack] I am in the same boat as a few others. I have been considering the Poker Genie as TD has been locking up on me at least once per tournament. Almost always when a sound is scheduled to play.

I have downloaded Dr Neau's software and have messed around with it a little, but have not yet used it. Was not aware there were problems with this freezing up. How often and how bad?[/threadjack]

That makes me want a genie even more. We run 2 table tournies with the same structure everytime and I think it would work perfect with the problems I am having with the laptop programs.

Sounds like user error to me.

I use a similar structure to your meridian. The funny thing is that I have a Poker Genie and don't use it. I should probably sell it. But then again, its nice to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it right?
