For more fancy, the level would be cool, but like someone said, you'd need a reset feature.
Even more fancy would be entering the chip count and number of players and pressing the - button during play when a player gets knocked out so you can display the number of remaining players and average chip count.
LCD, unless you want to start a battery fund for your poker game.
As far as marketability, I wouldn't buy one for my own use, but might buy one as a gift with a chip set. I prefer a computer program on the widescreen, or on a laptop or pda if traveling. | These are all good suggestions, but I do think a big part of the idea is the simplicity of it. Levels, chip count, etc. are nice but I might as well just buy a Poker Genie or get some software for my PDA.
One of the things I have been sort of focused on recently is getting my poker gear more portable. I have the roll-up foam layout (the one Ten mentioned in a new thread) and my new chips (Condado Beach GB) are coming in a 300 count set for portability purposes.
All the bells and whistles are nice, sure, but something that is small and easy is REALLY appealing (at least to me). Plus, I want to get rid of those !@#$%^& poker dice |

Poker dice are awesome! Nothing like a little gambool before the game starts!
Yeah, I'm down with the whole simplicity thing. It really just needs to be a repeatable egg timer.

I think that adding the chip count would be nice, but add to the cost (not so much design as the materials and size)
putting it in red resin would be awesome too...but then we're dealing with much higher manufacturing cost |

well, IF this happens, it will be roughly the size of the 5 dice...it would fit where the dice are now.
I want it simple...
basically 3 buttons. plus and minus time to set it...and a reset button...
4 digit LED (or LCD), AA battery powered...MAYBE a charger or AC power, depending on size...and a buzzer to notify the end of a round.
I think the chip counts would make it too large (the LEDs themselves would make it huge) |

Some odd people use the dice to see who's going to move tables. |

And I think just two buttons: one to add time, one to start/restart the timer; pressing both to clear the timer. |

my bad...I edited it above...LCD is cheaper powerwise...
I'd want one button to take away time as well...otherwise, if you go over, you'd have to cycle all the way around, and a small button doesn't take much space... |

what about a USB stick with an LCD display so it could be programed by computer?
I'm thinking cost would be about 15 bucks...with a rechargeable battery... |

I've been thinking about it, and it should be EASY to make.
the question is...what sort of market would there be for it, and what features would you want? programable countdown time of course...but what else? a buzzer? perhaps 2 buzzers, one for a warning, the other for the end of the round?
let's hear some suggestions and I'll start work on the design | I might be coming in late on this topic, but would you want it be that size (5 dice) so that it could fit into one of the slots in a "standard" chip case?
What about the useless card "section" in these cases? No cards I own that come with a plastic case fit into this section either. Not even a single deck of KEMs unless you wrap them in a rubberband and toss the card case.
I personally solved it by just ripping out the dividers and making one big space to put a double deck of cards, a button and an oven timer in my traveling 500 chip set case. I then cut a piece of felt the size of the new larger area and hot glued it inside to cover where the cases felt ripped out a bit.
Doing this might get around the size restrictions a bit, and perhaps you could just use one of those dealer button timers I've seen around. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
