So I got my Poker Genie Pro today. Thanks Donut! This thing is cool! While playing with it I decided the alarm was too loud for my late night games and it needed a power switch.
My plan was to add 2 switches. 1 for power, and one 3 position switch that would set the volume to Off, Low, or High (as is). Off to radio shack and I get the parts.
1.
SPST PC-Mountable Submini Toggle Switch
2.
DPDT Center Off Submini Toggle Switch
3.
560 ohm 1/2W 5% Carbon Film Resistor pk/5
I get home and while deciding how to put everything together I realize the switch I bought for the volume control (2) is too big. Ug. I should have just put everything down and bought a new smaller switch, but thats not what happened. I decide to eliminate that switch and permenantly make the volume Low.
I desolder the piezo buzzer and hook up the 560 Ohm resistor in line with the + voltage. The thing is TOO quiet. I should really go back and get the right resistor (150 Ohm), but I don't. I take 4 of the resisters and solder them in parallel, bringing the volume up to about half of normal. Perfect.
I move the buzzer between the Ante and Big Blind displays, and glue it in place. I also glue down the mass of resistors just to be safe. I didn't think about it at the time, but moving the buzzer brought the volume down another 10%.
Ok, volume's done. On to the power switch.
I follow the power from the recepticle to a resistor, and decide to put the switch there. I desolder one side of the resistor, and run a wire from it to my switch, and then another from the switch to the board. I drill a small hole in the front housing to mount the switch into.
Wala! I have a Poker Genie Pro with a Power Switch and volume about 40% of the original.
Now its time for bed.
