I think you will need semi-transparent (matt/smokey) plexi to make the table look like the WPT tables. Then the race track will light up real bright (use leds) but you will not be able to see through it no matter if it's led up or not.

Rope lighting shone through the plexi not from underneath would probably work the best. And I've got some rope lighting in my home theatre, it doesn't get warm to any extent.

I know someone has already made one of these.... didn't they post it on Texasholdem.com forum?? It was months ago. I think there was a translucent red domino border behind which were the lights.

Yes, I do recall that table except the person used translucent red dice; similar to the ones that come with the official 11.5g chip sets. It worked well though from the pictures that were posted, but I cannot recall exactly which site I saw it on.

Using a rheostat could change the color of the light from white to pink or green or orange, depending on the LED, or it might just get dimmer.
