Custom Poker Table Help?

Is a 60" round table enough for 10 people? What about a 72" round? I am getting quotes from a custom poker table builder in MT. He makes tables for poker rooms around MT. Is $400-600 too much to pay for a 60" or 72" round table with burgundy wine colored felt, fold-in legs (easy storage), black padded rail, sunken in cup holders on the table (not in the padded rail)?

My regular home game uses round tables. I have built 60", 66" and a 72" round tables. The 72" is just too big as the pots are always out of reach. You will have to get out of your chair to pull in the chips. To help with the problem at this table, I made some sticks (kind of like croupier sticks) to pull in the chips, but it is still a pain in the a$$.

I also have built two 66" tables. We regularly play with 10 people around this table. I think it is the perfect size for a round table to seat ten. The short, fat players will still have trouble pulling the chips, but for most others it is not a problem.

I also built one 60" table. This one was very easy as you can go to Sam's Club and buy a round fiberglass banquet table for $99. It was very easy to cover with foam and poker speedcloth. However, it is a little cramped for ten players, but we do it on occasion. If you have any BIG players, it shrinks it even more. It is best for eight players in my opinion.

Good luck! Hope this helps.

I built my own table, and although it is oval (not round), I'll give you my two cents.

My table is 92" x 48" yielding a circumference of 234". I can fit 10 comfortably. I can squeeze in 11. 12 is up close and personal. A 72" round table has a circumference of 226" vs. 188" for a 60" table. The general rule of thumb (I believe) is 22 to 24" per person. It sounds like a 72" table would be the way to go (if you have the room for it).

Materials for my table cost about $225. That includes 2 sheets of plywood, folding legs, black vinyl rail, high density foam (rail), blue felt, headliner (table), 10 plastic cupholders and rope lighting. If I was going to sell tables as a profession, I'd probably start pricing them at about $500. I don't know if I'd pay more than that for the table that you want (unless it had pedestal legs). $400 - $500 seems reasonable.

I am selling mine now, but I am only looking to get 2 X materials because I want to build 2 new tables. My home game is growing. This is what my table looks like:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...192734034&rd=1

Big thumbs up of the sunken in cupholders. I've been hosting games for over a year on my table and have had ZERO spilled drinks. I'll never build another table that doesn't have sunken cupholders. I'm thinking about upgrading to brass cupholders next time.

Stablity. My table is very sturdy with the folding legs. I don't know how sturdy a round table would be with just 2 sets of folding legs. I'd want 3 or 4, or at a minimum, I'd like to see his finished product before I buy. Lean on the table. Knock it around a little bit. If it seem sturdy, buy it.

I hope this helps. Good luck and enjoy the table!

Thanks Y'all. After measuring my dining area (8'8" x 9'8") and where I could store a table, I decided on a 60" table (still not sure where I will store it).

Although we wont be able to play 10 on this baby, It still we be a big upgrade from my folding octagon table. I will miss my old table-top...

My new pharaoh chips deserves a new table. Are they here yet??

$500 to my pops place in MT. He will ship it for me to Cali.

Any ideas of the shipping cost for something like this?

You can play ten with a 60" table, but it is a little cramped. If your players are not overly round, then it will make it easier. I host tourneys several times a year and I use my 60" table and borrow another from one of the players.

On the subject of cup holders, I do not like to have any drinks on the table. After a few beers, the likelihood of a spill gets pretty high. If you have been following the WSOP Main Event, defending champion Greg Raymer spilled his Coke all over his $1,000,000 in chips yesterday! It happens. We use side carts, TV trays and upside-down five gallon buckets.

Good luck!

Thanks, that gives us hope for 10 on a table giving that most of us are of the un-round type.

As far as spilliage, I am hoping to avoid that by installing the cup holders sunken in to the table as in "ddollevoet's" link. Luckily for me, our game has had only 2 minor spills (party fouls) on my octagon table in a year.
