imitation speed cloth...?

Does the suited-ness of speed cloth make it more slick? what about using regular fabric store polyester that is slick?.. I tried a week ago sliding some copags on a piece of smooth polyester they had at a local fabricland and the cards slid very well.. like ice righ off the end. It may not look as nice as the suits all over it but if it plays the same and is quick, so why not use it and save some money?..6 feet of it was about 40 dollars compared to about 60 everywhere else for SSC.

Im only going to use it on a low end table like the 'monaco' so its not like Im putting it on a high end custom table lol

planning to also remove the racetrack and fill in the cupholders so I have nothing but cloth over the entire face of table.

Re: imitation speed cloth...?

It depends on the fabric. Regular polyster fabric might not be as durable as SSC, and if you have to replace it more often, you're not really saving anything. Also, SSC is usually treated, so you should take that into consideration as well.

IMO spending an additional $20 on a $300+ table to get a cloth that you know will perform well is worth it. YMMV.

Re: imitation speed cloth...?

I've tried numerous poly fabrics and found that they do not perform as well long-term as ssc. And ssc is not that expensive. I think I covered my 54" round table for under $30 from TexasPokerSupply.com

Re: imitation speed cloth...?

First off, you're seriously building your own table, and trying to save TWENTY DOLLARS on the second most visible and important part of the table? (the rail being the first) Not to mention, you're going full-felt, which makes it even more important.

Second, you're shopping in the wrong place. 3 yards of regular SSC at YAT will cost you $48.32 plus shipping using the well-known coupon code "scottkeen" (15% off).

Seriously, don't skimp on this part of your table. Let's say you spend the $40 you plan on this material, and 6 months later, it's worn out. You either have to buy another sheet, or THEN get SSC. Either way, you're coming out behind. It's -EV...

Buy the SSC.

Re: imitation speed cloth...?

I read many places that suede or velveteen is the best.

Re: imitation speed cloth...?

texaspokersupply has a discount code "KEEN" for 10% off. SSC is waterproof which is worth the extra money. and as mentioned, it's more durable, i think it lasts like 50,000 rubs or something ridiculous like that in rub tests

Re: imitation speed cloth...?

Velveteen is below SSC durability wise. Gaming Suede is very pricy but said to be the best. SSC may not be the as soft as the others, but its the most durable and convenient of the cloths. Either way its your table, try what u please. After all trial and error is how we learn & improve.

- TSP has a CHPTALK10 - 10% code.

Re: imitation speed cloth...?

Remember there are two different brands/types of SSC. One is rough feeling but the other is not hard or rough to the touch at all. I got mine at YAT and have never had complaints that it feels rough.

Re: imitation speed cloth...?

similar to texaspokersupply's homestyle and high definition, the high def is the softer higher quality SSC. i buy my SSC from either TPS or YAT depending on what i need, their colors are slightly different
