96" table holds 10 or 10+Dealer
Going to build a table and was just wondering if a 96" table will fit 10 total people, or 10 people plus a dealer. If 10 plus a dealer is too tight, what are my options for building a larger table. All the plans I've seen incorporate a full sheet of plywood making the largest table I can make 96". I suppose I could make the playing surface 96" and then join 4 pieces together to make the rail, but that would be some work.
I have a fundraising tournament I have to host in a couple of months, and it will be 10 players plus a dealer. Just wondering if a 96" is good enough, or if I need to figure out how to make a larger table.
Thanks,

We have regularly used a 96" table with 10 players plus a dealer. It can get a little cozy if you have any wide bodies.

You should be good for 11 bodies (ten plus dealer) on a 96" table. We can squeeze 10 (nine plus dealer) into a smaller 76" when necessary.

+1 If using 9+Dealer the drink holders help to space out the players correctly, I built my tables with the drink holders on both sides of the player, NOT in the middle of each players seat.
You can see pics of the tables here.

I'd advise against cupholders in the racetrack or in the rail. That gives you more latitude in locating players of different widths. Just my $0.02.

Regularly play on a 96" table with 11 players with no problems.
+1 on skipping the cup holders built into the table.

I was planning on skipping the built in cup-holders and going with the slide unders. If i use the slide unders should I pad the entire playing surface wood, or stop at the railing?

depends on the design. if you have a base sheet (you can see the edge of the bottom sheet), then you'll want to pad up to the rail. if you pad right to the edge, when you try to attach your rail to the bottom sheet, you'll see the 1/4" gap from the foam.

I guess that leads me to the next question, 2 or 3 sheets? I was planning on 3, but this table will be used just as much away from my house as at it. 3 sheets looks better, but will obviously be heavier. If I make a table with 2 3/4 inch sheets, using the extra from the rail for a third layer (and to attach the legs to) will that be durable and not bow?
If I do go with 3 and only pad to the rail, is it tough to get those sliding cup holders underneath the rail?
