Is this Table a Good Buy...?
Hey fellas, my uncle hit me up today for me go with him to see a table off a craigslist ad. The table is the one seen in the pics. The table looks to be of 1" inch or 3/4" heavy wood. The felt is somewhat worn, and is either headliner foam or some sort of velveteen with thin padding. The rail vinyl is torn in some of the corners, but for the most part the table is still in decent shape and can still give months of play, despite the few cosmetic flaws. The rail screws apart in sections, so I am confident the felt can be replaced as well as the rail vinyl in the future.
The biggest issue is the heavy pedestal legs that will basically make this a permanent-stationary type table that will need a dedicated spot. But i feel for the price this is a good buy and i need to get back to him by tomorrow. (The man wanted $280, but he needs it out asap, so he said he'd take $200).
Can any table vets tell me if this is a good deal overall, or is my uncle better off buying and building the typical 8ft, floating rail, ssc, folding legs, $300 table that most builders make for themselves. Does anyone own this type of table or something similar? Help a CT'er out please, don't want to steer my uncle is the wrong direction. All input is appreciated, Thanks Men.

Re: Is this table a good buy...?
The price is ok for that table with that kind of legs. But the felt maybe terrible.

Re: Is this table a good buy...?
The pedestal base ALONE is worth the price you're going to pay. You can get another sheet of SSC for $60 and have a VERY nice table for less than $300. That's assuming you do nothing more than replace the felt. You can do more, but I would jump on that table for $200, even if my plan was to JUST use the pedestal for a totally different table.
Good luck.

Re: Is this table a good buy...?
Hey guys let me add: Can this table have folding legs bolted on to it to make more portable, or is it best meant to stay with the original pedestal base? Thx.
-UPDATE: Wow, found the table on ebay and tracked it to american gaming supply. I guess its a better buy than I thought. At least we can change out the felt and reupholster the vinyl when it needs it. Any other comments or input is welcomed, thx.

Re: Is this Table a Good Buy...?
IMHO, if you really looking for a table with folding legs, you'd be much better off starting from scratch and building it yourselves, especially if you'd be looking to replace the cloth and/or the rail vinyl down the road. The pedestals from that particular store aren't very good (there was a review done over at scott keen's a while back, you can try looking over there), plus they appear to be damaged (is part of the foot rail missing?). For reference/comparison, you could build a brand new table with sturdy cabinet grade plywood, really nice folding legs (that will be sturdier than those pedestals), with you choice of cloth & vinyl materials/colors for $350-$400. YMMV, my 2¢ worth.

Re: Is this Table a Good Buy...?
For $200 bucks its a half decent deal if you are willing to use it as it is.....but if you plan on buying it to replace felt(means prob replacing padding) and fix rails and change out the legs then I would let it go and look for one with folding legs or try to build one.

Also, I'd point out that unless you're running a raked game with a dedicated dealer, then the chip tray will just be in the way. I suppose you could just use it for cash game rebuys, but again, we're talking dedicated dealer... Just another thought.

Re: Is this Table a Good Buy...?
Seems like a good deal for a starter table. As others have said, you could always change a few things, like removing the tray, changing the felt etc..
Either way, it's a steal IMO.

Re: Is this Table a Good Buy...?
I'd be searching for another table the second it arrived in my house. IMO, get something not worth questioning on a CT thread. You know you don't like it. Tray sux, felt has gambool fade, legs perm.. blech.

Re: Is this Table a Good Buy...?
As always you wise men have a point. I don't like dealer trays either. The felt and rail vinyl will def need to be replaced. Adding all this including padding, guess the investment would be closer to $350+ range. Before he saw this ad I was looking to sway him on this table design, which I really like : 100_7730.MOV - YouTube ---- Does anyone know if the vinyl on this PT is marine? Doesn't seem Whisper to me.
This table seems awesome to me, but of course everyone has their views. I'd imagine the building a PT from scratch is about as manly as a dude can get, huh? The more I hear you gents advice, the more I lean away from the craigslist table. Thx again for the wisdom.
