I used the headliner foam on 3 of my tables. It works great. The neoprene is a great idea, but the headliner is a cheap alternative that can be bought pretty cheap at any Jo-Ann fabric store, by the yard (approx 6-8 dollars per yard.
I would like to build my next table with mousepads
I could definitely use a mousepad in the dealer spot. Since I use my wireless mouse to control the tournament software running on my desktop a mousepad would be quite useful. It sorta works on the felt but it could be better. My other option would be to install a pullout shelf that I can use for the mouse and add a holster to it to put the mouse in when I don't need it.

The little pull-out and holster sounds cool. You would always have to use the same seat though.

there are about 5 or 5 kinds of vinyl to cover the rail. Any thoughts on which is best and why?
L
None are really any better than the other except in how easy they are to work with. You want a vinyl that will stretch in at least one direction, preferably two. This makes it much easier to work with and pull when you are doing your rail. The two most commonly used vinyls for homemade poker table rails are marine and whisper. I myself used whisper because I liked the look of it more. It is less shiny and has a softer more "leather" feel than the marine.
With that said I'd HIGHLY recommend Whisper. If that is too pricy I also heard good things about Heidi. If price isn't, that new All-sport is probably very nice to work with. Contact them and ask for some samples or head to Jo-Anns to look and feel some of the different choices (usually Joann's carries Whisper and Marine).
