The animation video is great for the basics of how a table can be cut, but I would never use a string as the string will stretch nor would a jigsaw to be the tool of choice. Cutting out the center playing surface with a jigsaw is not going to leave a defined edge that one wants on a finish table. The better choice would be to use a router with a center pivot mounted to an adjustable arm. The use the router with a straight edge to get the nearly perfect edge on cuts.


As for the video it's a animation video to help the beginner learn how the pieces should fall together on this particular design of a table but not necessarily how it should be cut if the end user wants it cut accurately. Here is a jig I built but there are a number of commercially built jigs that do the same thing.

I have also included images of a jig I built to cut out cup holders along with a video.

I am not trying to highjack your thread. Because this thread is a how to build a poker table thread, I am just throwing up a few different angles on how to arrive at the same outcome on a poker table. I understand if someone is on a limited budget and the jigsaw is the only tool of choice then you have to make use of whats available.

you forgot to add in a 30 pack of beer while your building this on a Saturday afternoon, great video for the average skilled without alot of special tools needed (not everyone has a router layin around, great if you do )...and low cost involved
