Angry Never Ever BUY poker table from overseas

i just received my poker table from Rye Park Gaming
love the table but the cost of total is crazy.
the table cost about 1700 customed felt 280 shipping to my country(australia) is 400 which i thought was the total i should pay. i am wrong. when the table took 2 months to arrive australia, the shipping company ask me to go customs house to clear my item. then i went there, i was told to pay 350 tax(rye park give me a 'discounted' invoice 1200) and 140 for the Quarantine charged me another 140 to inspect the table, i paied again. i booked the inspection and booked the moving company to move it to my house. then i received a phone call which was from the Quarantine guy asking where i am. of course i was working.... he told me he could not do the inspection without me in case when opening the crate, the table is broken. with that stupid resaon i paid extra 140 for another inspection booking. the next day i took a day off and when there. the Quarantine guy asked me to open the crate. i asked how?? i didnt bring any tool. his response is ' i dont know and u should prepare the tool' !!! what the ... i tried my best to borrow some tool and took me 30 minutes to open the crate. the inspection only took 1 minute and the guy charge me 40 extra because the inspection booking for 30mins and he did 'overtime'. i thought finally its over. i was wrong again. the Quarantine guy wanted to charge me more. he gave me 2 options to get ride of the shipping crate: 1. destory it(700) 2. Fumigation (180) he left me no choice.
the last payment is to the moving company which ripped me for 150

so totally i paid: 1700+280+400+350+140+140(again)+180+150=3340

with that much of money u can just ask someone in your country to make the same table even better quality.

Re: Never Ever BUY poker table from oversea

Man that sucks.

Yeah, most wood needs to be fumigated coming into Aus. Looks like you got gipped on price, they gave you public price and not business price. Just a sucky story all up i guess

I have been looking at pocketacesoverkings.com to build a table for me, i spoke to him about 6 months ago and checked out his operation and Ean is a great guy with some amazing skills and he is only an hour away from me so pretty close.

All i can suggest is to write the experience off, enjoy a quality table and the comments from your poker buddies will be worth it.

Re: Never Ever BUY poker table from oversea

Well at least you got a very sweet table. I don't know that anyone else could have done as nice of a job with as nice of materials. It really sounds like a bad case of miscommunication. Maybe it was their first time sending overseas. As for all the fees to customs and others, if you would have known better what to expect from Rye Park it would have saved you money and if you had known, you could have prepared better. But its all water under the bridge man....sunk costs...it's gone....so just enjoy that sweet table!

He had you by the balls and he knew it. He was just wanted to squeeze as much out of you as he could.

It may not have been worth it, by that I mean you wouldn't have done it if you knew how much it would cost. But that is one mighty fine table you have there, enjoy.

Tickles.

Re: Never Ever BUY poker table from oversea

wow... that's gotta hurt.

As the other guys said, at least you got a sweet table, sure to be the only one in the country. I'm going to be freeing up more spare time in a couple of months, so keep me in mind if you ever need an extra player.

Did they not have to fumigate the table as well?

Sorry to hear about how you got steamrolled with fees. I hope you win big enough to not care and still enjoy the table.

Wow and I thought importing to the UK was bad..........sounds like the customs guys knew that you didn't know the importing system and played you for as much as they could. I hope you enjoy playing on the table, it looks tremendous.

Re: Never Ever BUY poker table from oversea

Welcome to the wondefull world of importing.

Whenever YOU order something and the seller doesnt handle the customs clearance OR you dont elect to hire a customs broker- you run this risk.
If youre not an experienced importer- its well worth the money to hire a customs broker- they would have gotten this taken care of- its what they do for a living-- and probably for alot less then it cost you in the end.

Most countries require a fumigation report whenever something is either shipped in wood- or contains wood. I cannot bring in anything into the USA without this report- and a customs broker would require this certificate with
the documents and an experienced seller who exports should know this.

With that said- Rye Park makes one hell of a table- so the bright side is- you have one of the finest tables you could buy-

Use it- enjoy it- and you have a great story behind the table for your card games
