Poker Table Preferences

For a high end custom THE table, what are your preferences, along with pros and cons?

For example, do you like wood race tracks (assuming flush with the felt)? Cup holders, yes or no? If yes, in the rail or in the race track (or felt if no race track)? Do you prefer your cup holders (if you like them) centered or off to the side? Do you prefer speed cloth, or standard felt? On the rails, leather or the bigger padded upolstery type? Multi color, single color, or logo felt?

Here's what I'm looking at, and looking for input:

I like the rails on this table (Table A):
http://www.bigslikpokertables.com/im..._table_new.jpg

I like the legs and felt (in speed cloth) of this one (Table B):
http://www.bigslikpokertables.com/im...les_shipes.jpg

Combining the Rails of Table A with the felt of Table B doesn't look like it will look good. I'm not a fan of drink holders of the bigger rails, but want a place for drinks, so I may go the drink cart route.

Also, I'm looking at using this logo http://www.utgolfclub.com/Images/Lib...ogo_banner.gif on a custom felt (I'm a member there and am working with them for permission to use). Maybe making the logo burnt orange and putting it on a black felt, or using a burnt orange logo on the tan felt.

Let me know your thoughts. The graphic artist I use is on deadlines for the next week or so, so I don't have her assistance to see how different looks mike go.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Re: Poker Table Preferences

I don't like wood tracks...too clacky with the chips and the plushness of a cloth makes it easier to lift cards for those with no nails like me.

I like to hug my chips and cup holder in one area. I prefer sunken cup holders because I always have a cup to put it in and need easy constant access. You can always use removable cup holders that sit on top of the track...I don't mind those either and I can use two if necessary.

Re: Poker Table Preferences

I don't have strong opinions on most of these issues, and I'll play on any table that lets me win more chips.

But since you asked, I prefer:
- no wood race track
- if custom cloth, then a betting line or a diferent color dyed into the felt to emulate a racetrack
- no cup holders, but if you had cup holders, then not in the rail
- more-padded rail, rather than thinner rail
- full rail around, not with a dealer cutout (unless you always have a dealer)
- ideally a custom logo felt rather than speed cloth

Re: Poker Table Preferences

I prefer tables without racetracks. Some look nice when they are done flush with no gap, but the chips sound harsh clacking away on the wooden surface. I do like a betting line though. Absolutely no cup holders in the playing surface EVAR. I can live with them in the rail, but prefer a smooth clean rail with the drinks on stands away from the playing surface.

Cloth preferences go like this for me:
1. Acid dyed nylon gaming cloth from Rye Park.
2. Dye sublimation polyester gaming cloth from Custom Poker Cloths. Get the heavier weight cloth
3. Nylon velvet speed cloth from Your Auto Trim.
4. Ultra soft velveteen from YAT.

One inch thick padding is enough for the rail as long as it is firm and dense enough. I don't like the over stuffed look. If I could afford it, I would go with Ultra Suede or something similar for the rail, but I think that stuff starts at about $55/yard.

If you like the look of a racetrack table you could make a two-tone dyed cloth like the first pic you posted. I like a one color cloth with a betting line and a logo. If the design is too busy in the center the board cards might be harder to read.

Re: Poker Table Preferences

Unless it's a PeteRod table with those gorgeous racetracks, I want all felt.

A nice clean simple design.

My other option would be for an octagonal or round table so dealers and players can have a nice social game and the dealer is not at one end of the table.

A real casino cloth is a must, not some suited stuff or worse.

As for the wooden leg comment earlier, most wooden legs look dumb because they are all of a style that is for old heavy furniture, not for a modern table. I don't much like my folding legs, but it's at least more useful.

Re: Poker Table Preferences

No race track
No built-in drink holders (prefer drink carts or slide-under holders)
No dealer cutout unless there is always a dedicated dealer
No chip tray

Betting line nice but not a must
Leather or vinyl rail
Legs that are out of the way
Simple playing surface (less is more)

My jury is still out on the playing surface. I just ordered a table with unsuited velvet speed cloth from YAT.

Yes to the wider rail (6")
Yes to custom cloth (even though I don't have this yet)
