Chips: 6,624 | | | Built my 1st table What do you think?
Crushed velvet for the surface stretched super tight works great.
I am a big Notre Dame fan so I went with the gold surface and navy rail.
I threw this together with a couple buddies in about 3 or 4 hours, so I consider it a success for my first table.
the under table has since been replaced with foldable legs.
I'd love to hear comments.

The velvet's a little wild for me, but that's just a matter of personal taste.
Hope you enjoy it! But then again, how can you not? I've never met a poker table I wasn't willing to play at! |

The gold doesn't do it for me, but if it works for you that's all that matters! Nice job on the rail too!

Host a tourney and then let us know how YOU liked playing on it.
Very curious. Good job again

Chips: 6,624 | | | Re: Built my 1st table I was skeptical about the surface as well. I actually went in thinking " I am not getting crushed velvet" because my friend used it, but a bad color and i didnt like the look. When I saw the gold, being the HUGE Notre Dame fan I am, I knew that was the one. I had first gone to a pool table store for pool table felt, but they wanted $100 for the felt and I was throwing this together on a whim, so I decided to go to a different store and check out other options.
If you pull this really tight(like any other surface I assume), without ripping it of course, this surface works like a dream. Cards slide perfectly. Maybe even better than felt since it is not as rough of a surface. We used about a 1/4 inch foam under I believe.(we used what my friend had left from another build) Chips stack perfectly, they respond well to the table, rolling sliding etc. Personally I love it.
If you are building a quick table and you don't want to go an expensive route, I'd say to give it a try. I figured if I didnt like it, I would just take it off and get something else.
The rail is actually made with 3 layers of foam since the store didn't have the right thickness. It was a challenge keeping it straight and even, but everyone agrees that it is perfect. 7 people other than me have played on it and they have all given me positive feedback. Granted 3 of them helped in various ways. The key to the rail for us was we had 4 people there. 2 stretching the vinyl 1 with a heat gun and one stapling. My friend did his himself and said the rail was the worst part. Looking back on it I can totally see how hard that would be by myself.
I am certainly going to build more tables trying different stuff.
Like I said though, I didn't like crushed velvet at first either, but I recommend you try it.
Some may object because of the different look or feel other than felt, but you can't deny that if used the right way, it is a fantastic playing surface.

The contrast between the cards, chips and the red felt was to intense. So hopefully this isn't a problem for you with the gold crushed velvet. If it is....no problem because you could always pop off the rail and staple another color felt over the existing one....anything you do just don't make it a primary solid red color. Good luck with the table it looks great. |
