Chips: 13,928 | | | What would you do? First HAND of a large (1700) MTT on Party. You are in middle posiiton.
Everyone has 1000 in chips. Blinds are 10/15
Dealt JJ
Folded to a player on on your right. He raises to 125. You are the only caller.
Flop is 775 with 2
While thinking about how to use this favorabile flop - the other guy pushes all in.
While thinking about what to do - he starts in on the chat window.
BINGO.......
followed by
JJ!!!!!!!!
OK - your move? |

Chips: 1,555 | | | If you really wanted to play that JJ aggressively, you may have wanted to raise him pre-flop rather than just calling. You really don't want to be up against two overcards as you then have a good chance at being drawn out on. I'd have reraised him pre-flop and see what he does. If he reraises you then perhaps you gained some info on his hand.
In many cases however, depending on how you read that player, you may want to lay that hand down. I wish I had laid down QQ once when I faced a similar situation early in the 1st ChipTalk Quarterly Tournament of Champions.
If its a big tournament and its early - you may want to back off and wait until the situation is more favorable. |

Chips: 18 | | If you had the J then call.
If not, fold and wait for later in the tourny to be loose. |

Chips: 7,798 | | I lay this down. The guy raises to 8xbb, I wouldn't flat call here preflop. Either reraise or fold. As it's the first hand, I easily lay this down on the flop. You could very well have the best hand, but I'm very comfortable waiting for a better spot to double up.
Chipper, you really still lamenting that QQ hand? I thought after the discussion you were at peace with the push? |

It was a good hand to discuss anyway. It's never fun busting out early on in a tournament but its sure as heck fun when you're on the winning side! |

Chips: 5,912 | | | unless you dont care about the money and just want to gamble you have to lay it down. You have no info on this player. He could have raised wit AA or 87 or KK or 55 or 72. So you are risking your entire stack on a hunch.
On an aside this brings up an interesting play i have seen lots of good players make online. Knowing that "noobs" or fish will often move in in the first couple of hands without much at stake and with hands such as middle pair or AQ, often times a good player will make a gross overbet with KK or AA hoping to get called by AJ or TT or something similar. They know that people have no perception of them at the table, but by playing the hand like they're an idiot then they may get called by someone thinking that they are just some idiot with pkt 7s. I have seen this play work numerous times and it always makes me crack up |

OK - this was a low buyin tournament - so the chances of a player posting this kind of raise with 89suited is a lot higher trhan others, but the runner runner flush to the jack does not seem like an out to me. |

Chipper, you really still lamenting that QQ hand? I thought after the discussion you were at peace with the push? | Both you and chipper had similar comments about reraising. I did think about this - but would raher have seen a flop. This was a lower buyin (hence the 1000+ player base) - and in typical party style, there are a lot of manicacs out there. If I raised - there could easily be another reraise all in behind me (say the BB reraises all in - and the original raiser calls). Then - the pot odds are so favorable to call - that I would be hard pressed to get away from the hand. A call allows me a decent exit strategy if there is more aciton to come. |

Chips: 310 | | | I am with SpaceMonkey here. When he overbets the pot 8xBB, you have to put him on hand he will call you down with regardless of how you bet it. You have to be committed to putting all your chips in with this hand or else fold.
Me, I wait for a better spot. You may very well have the best hand, but about the best you can hope for is a coin flip if he has two over cards to your pair. There is a real chance here that you are 4:1 dog if he has a bigger pair than your JJ.
