Whats that sucking sound?

I'm in a Limit HE ring game on Stars $1/$2. I'm UTG with AA. Yippeee!! Finally a decent starting hand. I raise. A guy from MP3 reraises, the SB calls, I cap, MP3 calls and SB calls.

The flop comes

I'm first to bet and do so. MP3 raises, SB calls, I cap, call, call.

The turn comes up

I bet, MP3 folds, SB calls.

The river comes

OK, so no flush here. I'm thinking my Ace trips are good. I bet, SB raises. ???? Surely he didn't call with a 54. I call.

The SB turns over and wins with a straight.

I was tilted!!! The table didn't say anything.

Strangely enough. The very next hand. I get Ace Ace again!!!!!

Payback time!!

Once again I raise from UTG+1. Get called by 3 people (including the guy who just beat me).

Long story short. My Ace Ace didn't hold up and AGAIN the guy rivers an inside straight draw!!!! He had a Jack Ten offsuit.

I was majorly tilted now. I let loose with a very nasty comment and logged off. Twice bitten with the same scenario by the same guy. There is no justice!!!

Sorry to hear it. Stick with it and the cards will come

Unless, of course, you are among those who think the online games are rigged

Sorry, I couldn't resist. Seriously, hang in there.

To me, the only salvation that you had was the use of the most excellent word...........m**********r.

I would have screamed it at the top of my lungs......more than once. The beauty is that it could be used, in this case, in many different ways. As an expression of surprise (shock?) as well as adjective...i.e. "he is a rivering m**********r", or as a noun...hey, you are a m**********r!

I find that no other word in the English language that can be applied so well in many different scenarios and provides the relief that sometimes, only a M**********R! can provide.

Hang in there, bro. Two consecutive bad beats like that have to be a few and far between occurrence.

Can I have that guy's handle? My buddy list would welcome him.

Sorry, Chipper. I'm not a big "bad beat" guy, but I'll give you this one in case it makes you feel any better...

$1/$2 max $200 buyin table yesterday:

I get

I am in MP, a limp to me I raise it up to $10, I get two calls. Pot is $35.

Flop is:

I bet out $15, one fold, one call. Pot is $65.

Turn is:

I bet out $40, called. Pot is $145.

River:

I check, he bets all-in, I've got him covered so it's only another $24 to call which I do. Pot is $193.

He turns over:

I didn't much care for that result either.

Good news is I still ended the night up about $200.

Ok... that really sucked... but... if you replay the hand from his point of view, he probably puts you and mp on a big ace, or maybe pockets -- maybe AA, who knows... it's a decent pot when it comes to him so, for whatever reason, he decides to see a flop w/ his suited connectors - maybe he'll catch lucky and if it misses he can dump it... sure it's a bad call, but "whatever... let's gamble", he says. (I think that this first call is his only real mistake in this hand.) Flop comes and he catches a 4 flush and inside straight draw, that's a lot of outs (13) as long as his read is right - maybe you've tripped your As or 8s, or caught two or top pair, whatever, as long as you're not holding hearts he's got a pretty good draw going (Since the Ah is out your raises make it pretty likely that you've already made your hand and aren't drawing the flush, if you're holding AK, AQ, etc he's in great shape if he can catch as you probably wouldn't be capping at this point w/ something like KQh or smaller)... there are a lot of chips in the pot now so he lets you and MP drive and he calls it down... J hits, you bet, MP folds, now he's heads up w/ roughly a 26% chance of catching here for 1 more bet and there's a lot of money in that pot...call. Duece hits (ouch), he catches lucky w/ the nut straight and drags the pot.

Was his play really that poor? Anyway... that's why limit sucks... you'd love to get a big bet in there after that flop and fold off crap like 45s.

Out of curiousity... would you bet and then call that river if a 3rd heart hit instead?

PS Really, it's better to say "that's why limit is an entirely different game."

Like i said in another post, call it a temporary deposit. Those guys have to win once in awhile or they won't keep on playing.

Actually in the first hand, I would've have folded preflop but after the flop, he had quite a few outs with both flush and gutshot straight draw. Not that bad with 2 cards to come.

But I understand how that kind of bad beat can make a person tilt. I went on tilt couple of times and it costs. What I do now is go to the microlimits and tilt there. I buyin with my whole roll and cap every hand for awhile. Usually lose couple of bux before I cool down.

Kind of funny sitting at .05/10 with over 4 digit roll and telling those guys I won it all at the microlimit. I tell them that the guys at the 1/2, 2/4 are too good for me, that I lose at that level.
