Chips: 29,466 | | I voted "rarely". That's because it seems that every time I slowplay them, I come to regret it. --- but I still haven't learned that lesson well enough to completely stop doing it

Chips: 84 | | Will never slowplay them against players i think less of, but if there's a player i know play mainly premium cards and he makes a big raise, a call pre-flop could be kind of sneaky.. |

Chips: 15,967 | | | i voted for rarely b/c it's correct, EV-wise. in a tournament, i'd like to be all-in against one player with AA. for that, i've got to raise PF. i raise 3-5xBB without fail. |

Chips: 13,075 | | Depends on position and the action in front of me. Ideally I want this hand heads up. If there are a bunch of limpers in front I'll pop it for whatever amount I think it will take to chase out the vast majority of players. If I'm first to act in late position or in the blinds with only one other player then I may just decide to try it - or not. Can't always be the same.
I have been able to throw them away if I do try to sneak in. If I pop a big raise and get a lot of action I'm probably pushing it all in unless the board makes that just a stupid play to make.
There, now you will all know how to play against me in the tournament tonight....maybe.

Chips: 1,555 | | | I learned my lesson on this one. One time I slow played these only to get nailed by some lucky draw to a straight. If i would have raised big pre-flop the guy probably wouldn't have called.
Now I make it a habit of raising pre-flop 3x-6x all the time. The only exception would be if someone had gone all-in pre-flop then I would just call.
One thing about AA - you just don't want to see someone draw out on ya - make em put up or shut up early.
As the old saying goes: Drawing hands like company but big pairs don't. |

Chips: 1,589 | | | I voted rarely but there are a ton of factors involved. Position, how many players, things like this.
Just last night at a 10 man table I caught AA in middle position. The 3s raised to 400 (blinds were 100/200). The short stack was in the small. I raised to 900. I did this because I thought the guy in the small was on tilt a bit from 2 hands earlier where I cracked his Kings with a straight. But I didn't want to raise too much, because I wanted the 3s to call no matter what the SB did. My plan half worked when the SB moved all in for 1600. The 3s folded though. I called and my aces beat his pocket 10's to bust him out of the tourney.
My point is every situation is different. Sometimes I'll raise, sometimes I'll slow play depending on the seperate factors. With a packed table, like last night, I will always raise. I don't want 5 limpers in that pot with me, because my aces are hard to lay down later. |

a side note on AA:
if you go all in PF and everyone calls, you're happy. let there be no doubt about that. in a field of 10, against 10 random hands, you're 30% to win. it's even better if they call with strong hands. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
