flopped straight. Board pairs

Both other players are aggressive with VPIP in the 15-20 range. PFR 12ish.

I know that I didn't have to call the flop, but I thought I might be able to hurt him with the right flop.
Slow down or bet hard? Also how was the flop bet size?

L

PS I'm having a bad day online, so it goes without saying that I got hurt on this hand. I'm trying to focus on my decisions.

Re: flopped straight. Board pairs

I'd bet here. Slowing down tells you nothing. They might suddenly fold on you. Are you afraid of K10, K9 with action like that pre-flop? Think someone has quad kings? Chances aren't good. Feels like a set-over-set to me. If someone has K10 or K9 pre-flop (or drawing to broadway waiting for the Q and it hits on the river and you split) oh well, that sucks. Lousy play by them and they get lucky. If someone is sitting on 9's or 10's your beat anyway. Depends on what they do when you bet.

I don't think your bet on the flop would matter if they think they have a made hand with trips. They could be calling afraid of the straight possibilities. You're probably behind, but no way to know unless you bet. If they're sitting on AK, KQ, 10-9 you're in good shape. Be prepared to jump ship though.

PS Me too.

Re: flopped straight. Board pairs

based on 20/12 numbers, KT/K9 seem pretty much out of their ranges. so basically it's a set into a boat, or you have them crushed.

so yeah, i'd bet and barring a shove-shove behind you or a horrific river card, i'm likely committed.

Re: flopped straight. Board pairs

There are only a few hands that will beat you in this situation. Obviously the board does look a little scary but sometimes you just gotta push all in. In this scenerio, chances are that you are good - but we don't talk about the ones we win - we beat ourselves up over the ones we lose.

Re: flopped straight. Board pairs

Do you donkbet often? I don't, so I would have check/raised that flop, but if you do then I guess doing it here is ok. But I think you should bet more than half the pot on that wet board to make it easier for stacks to go in. Or were you trying to induce a raise with your smallish bet?

UTG was a short-stack, so I'm putting the button on a pretty narrow range here (at least he shouldn't be raising with SC and crap like that too much): high cards and maybe 99+. MP probably has a range of 22-99 and high cards without AK/AQ, maybe some suited connectors too. So I think stuff like KTs, 99, TT and KK are possibly out there. Based on the flop action I'd be more worried about the MP guy (KTs, 99) than the button, if the button had a set or top two I think he would be raising there.

On the turn I'd probably bet just $15 and re-evaluate based on the action / river card.

with the flush draw, and what not on that board I bet more here, prob $6.50-7.50.

That said I agree with Mipevi, you are not the aggressor and are playing aggro opponents, which this board has likely hit, I C/R this flop.

And no I don't slow down when the board pairs here.
