Huge river bets into small pots

This hand came up last night at the Showboat in AC. The play is pretty regular casino 1/2 NLHE: standard preflop raises of $10-$15, five or six limpers to flops, etc. At this point the table had been playing about two hours. I was hovering near my original $120 then I won a pot from the player in question when I called $10 preflop, checked on the flop, check-called $10 on the turn, and check-called $50 on the river with red 88 on a K-7-6-10-2 board. He had AQ and cursed me as I stacked the chips.

Half an hour later the stacks were app. $220 for me and $375 for him. I get dealt UTG+1 and raise to $10. He flat calls next to me and the big blind calls also. $31 in the pot.
Flop . Check, I check to check raise, check.
Turn . Check, I bet $15, he calls, big blind folds. $61 in the pot.
River . I check, he snap-shoves allin. WTD?

IMO the first time he does this, you fold unless you have the nuts (or, maybe, second or third nuts).

If he makes a habit of it, then you have to reconsider your options.

Re: Huge river bets into small pots

I think your river check signaled weak or no hand to him and I cant see why he'd go all in with the monster the board is suggesting without trying to get paid to see it.
And he knows you can call down 3 bullets and moderate bet so he gonig all out to throw you out ofthe hand.
And he probably doesnt think you tricksy enough to check a better hand all the way down to the river.
But all that really depends on how he's been playing all this time.
Interested to know if you called him.

Terrible flop check.

Easy fold as played.

Haha, he so trapped you with trip 3's. That $15 he won slowplaying is so sweet!

Re: Huge river bets into small pots

How could it be a terrible flop check if you put him on three threes?

I say he is trying to push you off the hand with a paired Ace and a weaker kicker.

What hand is he calling the pre flop raise with that has one three in it?
