Chips: 1,053 | | | What poker game most rewards tight play? For sake of this discussion, let's not consider stakes, opponents or other subjective matters. What poker game lends itself best to tight play? Which game rewards tight players the most? Please discuss.

(Tight = playing few hands)
In limit poker even if you play tight you have to draw sometimes cause you get great odds.

I think of tight more as playing hands very selectively based on cards, action, stack size, position, etc. Often that means fewer hands for sure. I tend to think that limit hold 'em rewards tight play though more than NL does just because it's those no fold 'em players that play too loose that tend to go broke. Limit can actually be good for a great drawing hand like big suited connectors because there are so many players who stay in each pot. That, to me, doesn't equate to loose or non-tight, just smart. Having just started learning 2-7 triple draw though, I'd have to say that it best rewards tight play. Without it you go broke rapidly. Quote:

for instance...if there are antes, that rewards looser play. shorthanded rewards looser play. 3 blinds...looser play.
weird structures like 4/8 limit with blinds at 1/2...tighter play.
any game's optimal play depends on the money structure and the players. |

Omaha tends to play loosely because many players have the I-have-4-cards-I-can-hit-somethin-on-almost-any-flop mentality. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
