1-2 live play with AA

Alright, long time lurker here looking for some opinions of my play...

Now I don’t keep the best mental records of hands after I have left the table, so forgive me if I can be a little vague. I think I have most of the crucial points down though…

Its 1-2 NL live at Harrah’s Stl.

This is a table they just opened so no body is too stacked and there isn’t much of a read for anybody, but I can say the bad guy was playing a decent amount of hands, not crazy but not to conservative. He didn’t show anything down that really caught my attention. And he had me covered.

And I was playing tight, hadn’t showed anything down yet and had only seen a few flops

There is a live straddle, I’ve got about 150$ and I’m dealt AA

1 limped before me and I raise to 15$, one caller after me and original limper calls.

3 way action and I’m second to act.

Flop comes 10 J 7 rainbow

Bad Guy opens with a 40$ Bet….

What do I do?

and just for future reference, I have a second hand that I would like to share. Should I put them both in the same thread or start a second later?

Thanks,
Jason

Re: 1-2 live play with AA

I shove. Without a specific read, I don't put him on a set or two pair here as he would probably have checked to let you continue the betting. My guess is he's got top pair and trying to take the pot right here.

If he does have a set or two pair then NH and I rebuy.

BTW, I would probably have raised to $20 or so pre-flop with a straddle and a limper in front.

Cool Re: 1-2 live play with AA

If bad guy was playing alot of hands and playing them smart, and he had two pair, like J10s or 10-7s, then he propably would not have bet out for as much or at all and checked it to you. Its more likely he has top pair with a big kicker and is looking to take down the pot right here. If you push at this point and he will only call if he has two pair or better. So, why risk the rest of your chips at this point.

I would have called and waited to see if he made a continuation bet on the turn. If he checks the turn, IMO he has only one pair and you should bet your hand. If he pushes again, you will have to re-evaluate your hand.

Also, I would have raised a little more with a straddle pre-flop but hindsight is 20/20.

My guess is OESD, but certainly there are many other possibilities. But I think you are way ahead almost all the time. Time to push him off any draws and/or get him to make a really bad decision. If you lose, you lose. But this hand is why you came to play! "All you can eat!"

You've got a hand where you're ahead most of the time.

Jam away raise $130.

You think "most" 1-2 NL players are going to laydown AJ or KJ to our push here? I don't thnk so. If he's on a draw, why would we give him a free card?

After looking at the OP again, I'm guessing that "bad guy" had 89s and flopped the straight. That said, I still would have pushed.

Amen!

And raise more pre-flop.

Re: 1-2 live play with AA

Conclusion:

Like most of you have said, I pushed.

My gut was telling me that if he called he would have 10 J. I had to wait a suspenseful second while the guy behind me folded, then without hesitation he called and I figured I was dead…

He turned over J 9, which really took me by surprise.

Then he caught another Jack on the turn.

I really thought that I made the right play. But after getting busted like that (and other times) it can make you question yourself so I wanted to confirm it with some other people. Thanks

Also, what do you all think of his play? I’m probably more interested in what everyone thinks of that actually.
