I think it's important to remember that luck goes both ways too - meaning skilled players benefit as well.

Although I kinda agree.....I also believe a skilled player isn't nearly exposed to luck as much as a non-skilled player. A non-skilled player usually finds themself in a position (pot committed or bluffing) to better their hand through luck more often than a skilled player. Skilled players get off bad hands and bad position early...before the real luck kicks in (turn/river).

Since many people have commented that the structure can impact the luck factor take a look at this and give me your honest opinion. Keep in mind that I am working with a limited time schedule; obviously if time was not a factor the blind levels would be much longer.
Starting Stack: T10,000
Time/SB/BB
15/100/200
12/200/400
12/300/600
10/400/800
10/500/1000
10/700/1400
10/1000/2000
(I am fairly certain that the matches will end with this level or before it)
Last year in the matches I was in I averaged 8 hands per level and they were all 10 min blinds, the other guys were probably a little slower. I am hoping to get that many in again this year, maybe even push it to nine, but I really doubt that would happen.
So looking at this schedule do you think you would play considering the luck factor? |

I think this is a perfectly reasonable structure although I would prefer to have more big blinds to start (preferably 70-100 rather than 50). However, it is still fine with this setup.
As long as the buyin wasnt too high this structure would be fine with me. |

Chips: 1,514 | | | Re: Head's Up Arguments for Skill vs Luck Well BK the buy in was $10...actually $20 but that included $5 in cash chips and food/beer.
To sum up the tourney.....I was the first one out.
It was the 3rd blind level I am the chip leader by at least 2000. I found AJc as the dealer and raised, guy called, flop comes 2 clubs, I bet, he raises, I call (bad move #1), turn is a blank, river is a blank and I shove, he calls with middle pair. Next hand I try to steal with a K, and he calls with an A, and it holds up....yeah I was pretty bummed. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
