Re: Feeling a tad tilty...

limping isn't horrible, although folding is better. you're after more than one pair, though, b/c an 8 is too vulnerable (and you're oop) and an ace is too likely to be dominated.

so...the flop bet is fine, but i wouldn't bet the turn after getting two callers on the flop. i'd just hope to improve or get to showdown ultracheap.

this hand's a good example of how important position is.

Re: Feeling a tad tilty...

were u tilting when u played this hand? Or did this hand make you tilt? It's pretty standard imo, I agree by limping Axs u are looking for more than one pair. Bet flop, and try to get through cheap, with two callers and a paired board on the turn I don't think your 8's are good most of the time.

Re: Feeling a tad tilty...

I don't mind the limp - it looks like you will have quite a few people in the pot - and you do have the chance for the nut flush - so you could win a large pot. The flop bet is fine (maybe bet a little more?) - the turn bet is a no in my book.

Re: Feeling a tad tilty...

No, limping was not all that bad. If you can see a cheap flop with Ace-rag suited that's good, because you want the nut flush or top two pair. But it's probably a mistake to limp so early because you'll almost always face a raise and then you have to put more money in and your flop is not so cheap, or you fold and lose your limp.

Folding Ax early is best, but you got away with the limp, so let's go on to the flop. You didn't hit your flush/2 pair, so you're almost always going to fold to any bet. But in this case you hit the next best flop, top pair. Not very strong, but you might win the hand if you take it down NOW. You do not want any other cards, since things will almost certainly get worse (unless you get another 8 ). So either cut your losses and check-fold, or get aggressive and bet out. I would have bet the pot at least.

Look at it this way -- you bet 80 on the flop and then 200 on the turn. Wouldn't you have been better off to bet 120-150 on the flop? You'd most likely win. Or if you get callers, then you're beat and you've saved some money.

You're in bad position here, but there is one advantage to being early -- you can aggressively take control of the hand, if you want to and the board cooperates. Your small flop bet didn't take control.

But your fold on the river was good!
