Chips: 2,290 | | | AhKh, last hand of night & huge pot Here is the setup for the hand: 5:30A.M., we had been on about a 12 hour cash game session and prior to the cards being dealt we all agreed that this was the last hand for the night. Blinds were .25/.50, 5 handed and I was the big blind and chip leader with about $300. Before the cards were dealt Jeff moved all in dark for about $15.00. He had taken a series of bad beats and was on full tilt by then. Nick, with about $100, smooth called from early position, as did Tim with about $180 from the button. Then Joe called from the small blind. I look down at AhKh and study my situation. Roughly $60.00 in the pot and all limpers (who only called a dark all in from a tilting player), so I decide I should raise. I made it $50.00 straight (less than a pot sized bet), but I was a little scared that it would look like a steal attempt, but still wanted to try and isolate the dark all in. Everyone folds except for Tim who only smooth called. (Tim and I had gotten in another big pot earlier where I had pocket Aces, and he called a 3-way all in with suited connectors. I took about $200 in that pot!) Flop: Ks, 6h, 4h The action is on Tim who checked it to me. With top pair-top kicker and nut flush draw I felt my hand was pretty good. $160.00 in the pot so I bet $80.00. BTW, Tim started the hand with about $180.00 so with the $50.00 call preflop he had about $130.00 left. So my thought was with that $80.00 bet he would either fold or move in on me. He shoved all in. Of course I called. He turned over pocket 6’s for the set. ( I need help! ) Turn: Kd (I am almost drawing dead) River: 9h So, basically I was never ahead in the hand and lost a very large pot. I still was up for the session and doubled my buy in (I was in for $60.00 and cashed about $120.00 + tips) On the flop I took a very long time analyzing what I could possibly be up against after it was checked to me. In a way, I did smell a bit of a rat, but I felt I could safely rule out pocket Kings as he would have certainly raised preflop. But I felt that pocket 6’s or 4’s or even K 4 or K 6 were a good possibility. And even if I were up against a set or two pair I could still out draw him if I was behind. But basically, was I just destined to loose a big pot here, or should I have played it a little tighter and not committed so much money to the pot? These guys I play with pound weakness at every opportunity and are quite capable of bluffing with about anything. What do you all think?

He could call the 50 bet to see if he flops a set but calling an all-in with 66 is a bit more difficult. Having him fold preflop is your only hope with that f-up flop. Other than that you're screwed. |

He would have definitely called either way, especially since he called my all in earlier with the suited connectors. He was not going anywhere, lol! (But the bright side is that I often get well paid off on some huge pots with this crowd!)

The remaining 6 would have give his opponent quads. With that said, he wins with any three of the remaining 4's, any three of the remaining aces (although I suspect one of the callers likely had one), or the remaining K. In essence, he had 7 outs (unless you discount an ace). |

I had a similiar last hand, but I won, and much lower stakes (.25/.50 blinds).

Even with Tim hitting his set, you're only a 30/70 dog after the flop. So calling that last $50 was certainly not a bad move. You just got real unlucky when the board paired on the turn. Yikes!
I can't disagree with the "always fold the last hand of the night" sentiment, or at least play it for a small pot. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
