Do you call?

High Stakes Poker at its best!

Playing some .05/.10 NLHE on P*'s. Just wanting to see some flops and trying to make the correct decisions. So far it has worked and I've made enough money to buy 2 5K Ritz Chips in the last few days.

Now a little history tonight, I was playing well until I raised with A/K and had 2 callers. Flop comes AhKs7c, I bet, fold and I'm reraised. I push he calls (As4s) and hits a flush when the turn brings a 2s and the river brings a 9s.

So I rebuy and 20 hands later I get Big Slick. Raise to .50 with two callers. Flop comes, I hit my K, check, check, I raise $2 to protect my hand, sb pushes A.I. and the bb calls. I know one of them is chasing a flush draw, the other I believe I have beat and I'm not putting him on a set. Easy fold or push and pray?

My only read on staniel12 is that he's weak and has been a calling station. The other player just sat down and this is his third hand.

Re: Do you call?

Yuck. On one hand, two players all-in usually means TPTK is no good.

But on the other hand, this is a really dry board and the odds are good.

The way I've been playing lately, I call and see 44 and K9.

Re: Do you call?

I would call the raise in a heart beat. You have repped a huge bluff on both of your actions, overbetting the pot on both. I would assume that he thinks you are making a move and is stealing.

I don't think I can overcall though. Once that overbet is called you found your man with a real hand and it is time to fold.

You have no re-draws, just a naked ace with a kicker. I think you are the one chasing at this point and need to lay it down.

Re: Do you call?

Easy fold in my book. I am and will always be learning the game and the biggest lesson I have learned is that in these situations TPTK is no good. The better players lay this down and the donks call instantly. In my experience, I think you are up against a set. AK looks so good when you hit TPTK, but then you feel like puking when you bet the flop only to be reraised AI. Ugh.

Re: Do you call?

I would make a scornful laydown but smile at the fact that I get to see the showdown. Who had the set and who had the flush draw and how it pans out. Hell even if someone else had KQ you know the Q is hitting the river.

Re: Do you call?

I guess my question is, do you call an A.I. believing someone is drawing for the flush?

Assuming that the player has roughly a 36% chance of hitting their flush, is it worth it calling? Again, I know or believe I'm ahead but on this evening, it was just one of those nights.

Also, I know I could have made a pot size bet or lower but I didn't want anyone chasing a flush for cheap and overbet it.

Re: Do you call?

The first thing you gotta have to understand is, those guys don't care or don't even know pot odds.
You might put that stdaniel guy on a draw, but more likely something like KTs or KJs or maybe two pair. but that other guy does not call with a draw. You just don't have to give him a draw.
If you wanna survive there, you had to play some hands like a donkey, too. It works.
Last night I limped in from the SB and flopped 2 pair and 2 players behind me. so I check, one guy bets 0.40 into 0.30, that other guy calls. Usually I would raise about 3x the bet. But I knew at least one of those players was a total moron, so I pushed with $6 more. one player called with middle pair.
Another time somebody limps in and just calls you down to the end with KK.
The tighter you play, the better you go on those low limits. Play less hands and more tables.
and don't think too much.

Although I believe in pot odds, I'm apt to laydown here IF my stack size is at a threatening level in that I will be mortified to lose. I call it "implied loss odds". Stack amount shouldn't matter here, but I will laydown a hand if I feel it will hurt me bigtime (aka live to fight another hand). Its getting easier for me to laydown these hands (even heads up) online, as I find I will scoop up enough pots to makeup for the loss I have in this hand.

Live home games....with Guinness in me.....annudah story baby! I'm ALL IN.

Implied loss odds, how true. I was thinking the same, believing that one of the players was chasing a flush, I paused for a few then I .......hee haw pushed.

Re: Do you call?

Wow. I was working on hand ranges just before your last post. I had one player on A2s and the other one on K9+,99,44,AK. You might even see a poorly played JJ or something.
Because of the preflop and flop betting, you're gettin 3.5:1 on a 1.82:1 gamble. I think calling all-in is fine.

Personally, I wouldn't try to overbet the pot all the time to "chase out" draws -- your goal is to charge an unfair price, then pray that he calls (because you make money this way). At some point, your overbets will only be looked up by hands that have you crushed (2pair, sets, monster draws, etc). Course, at the low limits, nobody folds a flush draw, so feel free to charge em the max
