Re: P* 5000 person tourney....play this hand.

Easy push for me. 800th place is unlikely to be a huge payoff and you were down to less than 3BB. Give yourself a chance to come back rather than squeak in to a minimal payout.

Regards,

David.

PS: I suppose if I were to think more broadly, I should ask when the next cutoff point for payment is (ie. does 601-800 pay the same 15c or similar?) If you don't think you can savagely outplay another 200 (for eg) high stakes players to make the next payment cutoff after doubling up then I guess it would be +ev to fold (before you raised). In any other situation, push push push!

Re: P* 5000 person tourney....play this hand.

I don't even think the number of players or buy-in amount comes into the argument here. You've got less than 3BB left and a top 5 hand, PUSH.

You are on the bubble with your least favorite hand.
Why raise? You know that it will lose.
You are better off waiting for a stronger hand like 7-2 os and then push.

Re: P* 5000 person tourney....play this hand.

Best thing about tonight is that some people from the office came knocking on my door just as the tourney began...so I just hit the sit out button and started drinking a few beers while watching my hands go by.

A few times I just pushed all in with the best hand and had three callers and won. So I went back to having a few beers, sitting out and not paying attention. Then saw that I was finally in the money.

QQ comes up and I raise.

Everyone at the table took a very long time to decide whether to call or fold.

While that was happening, more than 100 players were out already just since this hand began.

Dealt to HellBunker [Qs Qd]

ben700: raises 1200 to 3600 (with

HellBunker: calls 400 and is all-in

*** FLOP *** [7c 9c Jh]
*** TURN *** [7c 9c Jh] [3c]
*** RIVER *** [7c 9c Jh 3c] [Ah]

*** SHOW DOWN ***
ben700: shows [Tc 8d] (a straight, Seven to Jack)
HellBunker: shows [Qs Qd] (a pair of Queens)
ben700 collected 7325 from pot

Guess I should have pushed all in pre flop.
