View Poll Results: Tournament choice: 2-table (3 entries) or 1-table (1 entry, but some cash prizes)?
Enter the 2-table tournamet -- I'm confident I can place in the top 3 4 28.57%
Enter the 1-table tournament -- I'd rather get something if I don't win. 10 71.43%

Poll: Tournament Selection -- 1-table vs. 2-table

Since Pokerstars introduced a second option for its PCA tournaments, I figured a discussion on tournament selection might make a good poll.

Scenario: After winning a number of supersatellites, you now have a chance to win your way into the "main event" ($12K value). However, you have two options to do this...
1. Play a 2-table tournament (18 players), with the top 3 winning entries into the main event -- no prizes or cash for finishing 4th or worse.
2. Play a 1-table tournament, with only the winner getting an entry into the main event -- however, there are cash prizes for finishing in 2nd ($1500) to 7th ($500).

Assuming the amount you spent to enter the supers was less than the lowest cash prize in the 1-table tournament (you entered your first super on a freeroll, or anything up to $200), which tournament do you enter? Which is more important to you -- having 3 chances to win a "main event" entry, or earning some return on your investment?

The actual numbers are pretty important here.

If its above your br, play 1 table and take consolation if don't qualify. If it's within b/r I'd go for the qualification and 2 table it

Re: Poll: Tournament Selection -- 1-table vs. 2-table

Since you already played all the super-sats, I'd say go for the 2-table tourney with more main event entries. If you had 3 entries into either of these tournaments, I'd probably play the 1-table 3 times instead.

Re: Poll: Tournament Selection -- 1-table vs. 2-table

Assuming the prize pools are even, you definitely want the 2-table tournament. And it isn't close.

Isn't the whole goal to enter the main event?

But your odds are twice as good at cashing with the single

Cashing or winning a main event seat? We've (or at least I have) already established that the EV is the same for both tourneys. I'm saying I'd rather have more chances to get a seat (as opposed to just cashing).
