Aaargh! Could I have gotten away from this?

Well, I just busted out of the FTP Winner's Choice Saturday tourney in 10th place. It was a $200 buy in tourney, but I won my entrace through a $8 and then $26 sattellite.

Could I have gotten away from this hand that busted me out? Please share your thoughts...

5-handed table. I'm in the SB with $22K in chips. Big stack is to my left in the BB w/ $35K in chips (I'm in 4th place in chip count).

Blinds are 300/600 w 50 antes.

It folds to me. I have 42 off suit. I complete the bet. BB checks.

Flop: T T 2.

I bet pot. BB calls.

Turn: 2

I bet pot. BB re-raises, which pretty much puts me all in, so I re-raise all-in, he calls.

He shows T6. I'm gone.

Re: Aaargh! Could I have gotten away from this?

slam on the brakes when he calls flop... maybe?

Very very hard to get away from when you fill up. Maybe a smaller (1/2 to 2/3) bet on the turn and dump if/when he raises.

Still, congrats on getting that deep.

Re: Aaargh! Could I have gotten away from this?

In my view you could have only gotten away from that one if you didn't have the "misfortune" of getting a third 2 on the River.

So you basically knew that he could either have (a) a 3rd Ten, or (b) a 4th Two to beat you, giving him 3 chances out of 45 cards unseen (1 in 15 using simple probability).

I would have probably thought about backing off after his re-raise, but by that point you had a small stack of chips left & really needed to win the pot given the tournament format, so I would have likely thrown the rest in also.

Turn I check. Likely that just delays the play to put you all in, but at least you have a choice.

Bummer....

Re: Aaargh! Could I have gotten away from this?

probably not once you see the flop and turn

personally, I either fold or raise 24 into the bb. not much good that can happen with that hand imo once you limp.

Re: Aaargh! Could I have gotten away from this?

i think you put in too much on every street (excepting preflop). i mean really, you had 30+ bb and went bust with bottom boat?

street by street. the flop comes down tt2. the pot is 1500 or so. betting the pot is too much. he can't be drawing, and so this is the kind of flop where a smaller bet is better. if he has a T or a pair he'll call bigger bets, and if he doesn't he's likely to fold. so why put in the extra money?

the turn T: what do you beat now? AK? you bet too much on the flop and he called. what are you hoping for? ....now he raises your bet. once he raises you on the turn you can only beat a bluff.

you started with 22k, bet 650 preflop, 1500 on the flop and 5000 on the turn, leaving you with 15k. this is plenty to work with and a clear fold.

Re: Aaargh! Could I have gotten away from this?

I would throw away 24 and for the second reason. You have no "Position"

I would never go against big stack plus position. The only way you could win is big card which you don't have.

On a positive note you did good to get to the 10 place.

How many player total? How many player get paid?

Better of luck next time.

Re: Aaargh! Could I have gotten away from this?

I fold that in a second pf and if I don't then I have to agree with jojo that especially on the turn you were likely beat and could only beat a bluff. You don't give a read, and I suppose he could be on a bluff. Maybe if you had a read that he often tried to defend his BB but otherwise pushing after his re-raise on the turn was a mistake too.

Re: Aaargh! Could I have gotten away from this?

Fold preflop.

Especially since it's folded to you. You're getting 3:1 but with the worst hand. Not a hand you want to risk any amount of chips with.

Flop, maybe bet 1/2 the pot. NO sense betting the pot on a paired board unless u have trips. His call should scream that you're beat. You betting the pot tells most players that you DON'T have the ten. Therefore your opponent can represent the ten, if he has it or not.

Turn, Pot agian? This is just bad since he's already called. Also, you said this committed you. You do have a full house, but the bad end of one. He's only calling here if you're beat or a tie at best. He'd have raised preflop with any pair or ace I think, since he's up against only the SB who completed.

No HH?
