Smile Praying in poker

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to know your though on the subjust Praying. When I mean praying I mean like what Jerry Yang did in 2007 WSOP.

My though is I am with Kenny Tran, you tell Jerry Yang baby. leave that stuff at home. This is not a church....

Re: Praying in poker

I don't care either way. If you wanna do it, great. If not, well that's just fine too. As much as I believe in the power of prayer, I don't think it helps at the poker table.

I don't even believe in god - keep it away from me completely. The world is not 8,000 years old.

Re: Praying in poker

I don't see praying as any different than any other form of exhibition. It's not more annoying to me, but as I've expressed in other threads, I think excessive public display shows poor self-control and a lack of consideration for others.

Personally, I don't understand praying in competition. I would expand this to say that I don't understand when athletes credit their god for their performance. I know that doing so is not intended to be insensitive, but at the very least it seems in bad taste. All kinds of very sad, difficult things happen to good people--illness, hardship, disaster, crisis--for which it would seem there was no divine intervention to prevent the bad things from happening. It's always bothered me when people pray over petty things, or suggest that god intervenes in sports competition. It just seems narrow minded and not very well thought-out. I guess it also seems narcissistic and priviledged.

Re: Praying in poker

If others at the table will pray, bring their lucky dice, lucky teddybear, wear funny glasses, have unwashed underwear, have glued a dead ant on their forehead or dancing nude while drinking goat milk it is fine with me since I can't see how it will help them. I think they just give me one more out.

If I host the guy with the dirty underwear and the naked dancer has to leave though.

In general I do sort of believe in prayers though.

As long as there are no animal sacrifices and consuming blood or other bodily fluids
if you think that's going to help you hit your one outer knock yourself out.

Re: Praying in poker

I'm antireligious, but praying at the poker table seems...kind of selfish? With all the problems in the world...if there was a god...don't you think wasting prayers on friggin' poker is a bit, blasphemus?

Not if said God is as powerful as that individual believes. He can probably multi-task.

So long as it doesn't slow the game down, I have no problem with it.
