London Victoria Casino (thread title change) EPT $10,000 event begins tomorrow

Went to London Victoria Casino tonight to watch some of the lower limit buy in EPT events being held there this week. Next week the $10,000 EPT Main Event begins.

So, I got a little bored trying to watch action because the casino is not geared for railbirds. So I decided to play on one of the self dealt low limit tables...the £.50/£1 £100 max buy in table. So that is essentially a $1/$2 table.

Go around one time, finally pick up A J in late position. One raiser in front of me up to £3 ($6). I call, guy on button calls, guy in cutoff calls. Flop is A 8 5 , check, check, I bet £5 ($10), call, call, call around the table.

Turn is 5 . Now I have AA55 with a J kicker. Check, check, check, I bet £10 ($20). Guy to my left calls, one fold, and the guy in first position raises me all in and I have about £80 ($160) sitting there and I fold. He shows 8855 and I reach over and turn over my AJ. He called me a weak player for betting so small. I had bet the equivalent of $40 already into the flop and turn and that's weak?

PS I'll be posting pictures of the chips when I find the camera. The £.50 is a chipco, the £1 is some sort of crap I've never seen before, and the £5 is a Coin center Bud Jones chip. Maybe that's why I didn't like the game, using 3 types of chips just sucks.

Re: I'm such a wimp at no limit in a live casino!

4x3£ preflop = 12£ in the pot
flop bet 5£ (less than half the pot in a multiway pot is small), and is called in 4 spots = 20£more in the pot for a total pot of 32£
turn bet is then 10£ into 32£, which is tremendously small.

you have to remember in NL, it doesn't matter how much in actual money you're betting. the only thing that makes a bet weak or strong is the size of the bet in relation to the pot. you bet 5/12 of the pot on the flop and 10/32 of the pot on the turn. so yeah, those are small bets.

Try and forget $$amounts. Like limit is in terms of big bets, no limit is in terms of pot size.

Agreed. You should have probably bet the pot on the Turn.

What's a self dealt table? Like there's no dealer, just you guys playing? Is there a rake?

Just like your home game. The tables are octagonal for these small games at this casino. There is no rake BUT there is an hourly session charge of £4 per hour that they come around and collect from the tables directly.

The higher limit cash games are at normal racetrack tables with a dealer who takes a rake. Those tables had a very nice felt as well compared to the smaller octagonal table I played.

As for other comments above, yes I had nightmares all night thinking about the size of pot I could have won if I had just stayed in and bet more. I guess that I am not used to throwing that kind of money into a pot yet, not even close it seems.

So, maybe it's time for me to start my note taking for learning experiences as I move forward if I'm going to play those games in the future.

I'll probably stick to a weekly £10 80 person tournament for awhile until I get back into the poker scene. I have not played a hand online or in person for over 3 months since I arrived in London.

This is where I think UK casinos are very poor. No dealer, not particularly high quality tables, and for the most part nasty chips.

A nice home game has all that beaten hands down and I don't have to pay the house anything. Apparently there is a casino opening in Edinburgh in the near future that is going to be heavily orientated towards poker though, and I hope to see more quality tables with dealers. I don't hold out much hope for the chips though.

Here's waiting for your ebay uk sales Noel...

Others can be brave and get stacked, I would rather be a wimp who is winner rather than macho and a loser.

Also, "A bad fold is only a little mistake"
I can't remember who said that now.
