| Re: WPT Cash Boot Camp..has anyone gone to one of these/ is it woth $1,700+ I don't know about the cash camp... I went to the WPT NLH boot camp, but I only paid $600 to go, not the full $1700 pricetag.
I had a good time and got to meet and hang out, even played a private instructional tournament with the poker celebs, but I don't think I would have felt it was worth full price after the fact, if I had paid that much.
Don't get me wrong, the camp was a lot of fun and if its the full experience you are wanting: of hanging out in a casino, having poker pros around and a poker-filled weekend, then it may be worth it to you, especially if $1700 is what you are likely to gamble away in any given weekend at a casino.
But as far as pure instruction goes, I think you could get the same amount of actual instruction, probably even more, from investing the time to read and study a good strategy book or two. With the number of students per instructor they have, you don't really get much one-on-one time with them, so most of the instruction takes place from classroom lecture and observation. If it's one-on-one instruction and professional critique of your own style of play, you're not going to get very much of it here. You would just have to hire a professional personal poker coach to get that level of personalized instruction.
So, the bottom line: I had a good time, a learned some from the camp (but learned more from reading HOH) and really enjoyed the up-close experience of meeting the poker pros. Do I think it was worth $1700? Personally, no, but $1700 to me isn't disposable cash, it's a mortgage payment. |
