In my opinion, playing heads-up is not the best test for a computer, but it's probably a good start. The more players at a table, I think the better the human results would be.
But they're making it a fair game within the HU constraints -- duplicate hands to two teams, and the human playing opposite seats across the two tables.
The team already has a program that can not lost at checker but poker is a different animal. I hope it will take a long, long time before poker playing program get that good.
Just read that the game will be limit holdem and it will be played duplicate bridge style. Laak will be in one room and Ali Eslami will be in another room playing the same hand vs the computer but with the hands reversed. After the match is over, the total of the human chips vs the computer's chips will decide who won.
That format should take the luck factor out of the match.

i saw that earlier today and thought "its about time" like i said in the other thread, it'll be a while before the bots can play poker as well as a pro.
