Why am I checking my big hands? HELP!

Tell me, do you agree or disagree with the check on this hand?

Whiteski1221 - t5280
jetra2 - t7200

PREFLOP Level VI (100/200)
jetra2 is BB with 6 8
1 fold, Whiteski1221 calls t100, jetra2 checks.

FLOP t400 (2 players)
J 9 5

TURN t800 (2 players)
J 9 5 7

RIVER t4800 (2 players)

Final Pot: t4800

I remember my opponent for that hand being fairly tight, has surrendered SB a coupla times since I took chip lead and got aggressive 4-handed.

How about this one. I just about got caught stealing here, but on the turn I got lucky.

Re: Why am I checking my big hands? HELP!

Hand 1 the check is fine, though I'd fold the flop

Hand 2 I bet the river.

I also agree.
The first one you checked because you might have been beat by any T.

What was your reasoning for checking behind on hand 2?

A-3, 55, 3-6, even JJ.

I rarely play 7-4o. Note there I was in the BB, the SB only called, then he min-bet the flop. Major weakness, in my book. I thought that if I hit my gutshot, I'd get a good chunk of his chips. I ended up getting 2200 of them, almost half his stack.

Re: Why am I checking my big hands? HELP!

I think hand 1 is okay. You don't really have a "big hand" after the river.

The second hand is just bad. If you're scared of anything on that board, you might want to change your screen name to "yeltzen". Seriously, though, he's playing the hand like a guy with an overpair. You raised with junk, and got a dream board. He will probably never put you on a four there, and you could have made value on the river (unless he just had a lone A or 3).

All of those hands are very unlikely given that he was defending a raise, and the action of the hand. 55 is the most likely i suppose. Much more likely he was chasing with overcards or something like 88/99 and he thinks you're betting AK unimproved. If you check behind on the riv and he has KJ, or AJ or AA/KK, then you missed out on getting all his chips. Making a smallish river bet he might even call you with AK himself! There's no way he puts you on the 4, bet that river!

Re: Why am I checking my big hands? HELP!

Well, I think he's relatively weak. I think he may have hit middle pair weak kicker or top pair weak kicker and he'd go all the way.
