- My M is 5 (blinds 500-1000, stack ~7500)
- Big stack is doing his job, pushing everyone with massive chips lead and no real hands (reraised a player allin with K8 3 hand earlier and won...)
- I catched 99, pushed all-in, big stack turned QQ
- I'm dead on the bubble, with brand new table, brand new pharaohs, at home

Do you push your luck until getting broke, or you care about the M, because doubling up with 1-2 bigblind is useless and waste of time?

I trusted the M for so long, but everytime i went out with frustrations

Of course you worry about your M. it's hard to come back from an M of 5 but it's more than twice as hard to come back from an M of 2.5. You have to win two double up confrontations in the second case.

Just persevere and get a large sample size before passing judgment.

Actually your effective M is only 2.5 right now, due to there being only 4 players left. (HOH 2, p. 277)
You definitely made the right play with your 99, you possibly should have been pushing a lot before this hand too.

Harrington's M is usually too conservative. It would be fine if the blinds never went up or the levels were ridiculously long. You should be thinking about making a move at least one round ahead of time.

there's not badbeat here, i was dominated so i expected to die on that hand (80%-20%). bad beat is when your huge favorite and lost...

the question is do you use the M or you wait a better hand than small pockets to move allin?

If you have an M of 5, and you don't push with 99 because you want to "wait for a better hand," you're going to have a short and miserable poker career.

What were the other players' M's? I guess you *could* have folded everything for 20 hands (if blinds weren't going up) until you were blinded out in the hopes that someone busted out before you, but pushing with 99 definitely seems like the right move if you were the short stack.

If you were 2nd in chips (i.e. 2 other players had lower M's), then waiting could be justified - which is related to Harrington's "Q".

Sometimes you don't make the money. I rarely make the money in the tournaments I host. That's why we follow it with a cash game. Then I can make my tourney buy-in back (and often 3-10x more).
