Chips: 13,958 | | | How wold you play this hand EDIT - to clarify an important point - this was in HORSE, LIMIT HoldEm - 8 Handed
OK - one of the puzzlers from my WSOP trip. For the most part - I was able to see my mistakes right away, but this one to me was somewhat difficult to play because of my shortstack status.
Blinds - 500/1000, 1K-2K limits
I am on the shortstack on the button with 2000 left. Table has been playing fairly tight - and no real overaggresisve players.
The button and table layout has allowed for me to quick peek check my cards early at times - did it this hand. Looked down at 78 diamonds.
UTG Raise (Cindy Violette) and folded to me. Eugene Tood (bro) in the BB. Neither have been out of line playing junk cards, so I am pretty sure that I have two live unders. Call - allin or fold......
I was really torn with what to do - I had little chips left, and needed to make some kind of stand before the blinds hit me again. I am still not sure that I made the right play and would like to hear comments.

Reason: making sure the field knows that this is limit horse

Utg raise = 2000

I'd call and hope the BB comes along | Exactly - any hand he plays is for all his stack. He's has zero fold equity so waiting for first in vig is useless. Hope for two live cards and yell yiiipppppppeeeeee. |

no antes - limit poker and the call was for an allin
limit gives you a bit more time to be paitent than NL, but not much.
Initially, I was planning on raising into the blinds if it folded around. |

If you're not within 5 spots of making the money, I'd likely say go all-in. Why not, since you'll need to double-up again to make the money, most likely. Within 5, I'd say fold. You still have 6 hands(?) before posting a BB again. |

Chips: 482 | | | Re: How wold you play this hand For me, the only way I could see calling this would be if there were multiple callers ahead of you, giving you a chance to raise your stack 4x or 5x... and then only if you aren't right on or near the bubble. Calling a early possition raise for all of your stack with 78 is risking your tourney on a bad hand for not nearly enough possible reward.
I have to admit though, I hate playing short stacks and when I get them I look for huge gambles with extreme pot odds. Again, to me, this has too much gamble for the pot odds you are getting.
