Chips: 794 | | | Turn: bet or check? Prior to playing this cash game I was on semi-tilt. I was playing in a $5 SNG, 2nd in chips (4 left) and I DONKED off my chips to the chip leader. A complete buffoon move on my part (I'm still steaming as I type this).
So I decide to play a cash game and another $5 SNG. My thought process is that I'm going to make my $5 back and continue on to my goal. Personally, I should have shut it down because of a long day but I love to play.
I started off with $15 in chips in the .10/.25.

Dealt to Irish Se7en [Qs Qc]
Thomas1964: calls $0.25
Irish Se7en: raises $1.25 to $1.50
Mintypockets: folds
devon06atX: folds
VingTsun: folds
Thomas1964: calls $1.25
*** FLOP *** [7d 7h Jd]
Thomas1964: checks
Irish Se7en: bets $3.25
Thomas1964: calls $3.25
*** TURN *** [7d 7h Jd] [2d]
I have no information no Thomas1964 (besides his name and d.o.b.) as he's been at the table for a short period of time. After the flop I make my standard raise with the flush draw being out there. Thomas1964 insta-calls. Now I'm thinking he could be slowing playing trips or chasing a flush draw. Turn brings the 2d, he checks what should I do? Bet or check it. Irish |

Worst case scenario is he has AJ or KJ with one diamond and your turn check lets him catch up, but barring that scenario you are always better checking behind, and more likely to a pick off a bluff on the river as well. |

Chips: 794 | | | Re: Turn: bet or check? Well I did what was suggested I checked. River comes and it's a Ts. He bets $2.75 the pot now is $11.95, knowing that he could possibly have trip 7's or even J/T suited, it's really an easy call but I'm not 100% sure that I'm not beat, so call or raise? Folding isn't an option. Chips: 2,456 | | | Re: Turn: bet or check? everything about the action of the hand suggests he's passive-weak, if he's going to check-call with a set or flush all day, you're certainly not going to get him to fold to a reraise. I can't imagine him folding a set, putting you on a flush.
you have to call or fold, but if you call thinking you're behind, the key is that you learn something. next time you're in a pot with this guy and have more confidence in your hand, play the hand the exact same way and you'll exact some revenge.
when people take pots off you, it builds their confidence, you have to use the information you get from your call, to set him up for a play later. |
