How to play this structure?

I was curious to know what people thought about beating this tournament structure. I was invited along to a $5 home tournament at the last minute and wasn't sure what the structure, blind levels, etc. were involved ahead of time.

15 players on two tables, started with 2000 each in chips, blinds 25/50, 15 minute levels.

Schedule turned out to be
25/50
50/100
100/200
250/500
500/1000
1000/2000
Winner takes all (except $5 which apparently goes to the house)

It seems to me with this structure, the keys are aggression and luck. Our table was loose passive. The other table sounded more aggressive. Is there any viable strategy (other than not to play)?

Anyway, I probably won't go back as it was a spur of the moment thing and I don't think I can learn much from a tournament with that structure. But I was curious to know what others thought.

As this is chiptalk.net I'll let you know that the tables were nice (to the untrained eye like my own, I'm not a table snob yet - they weren't custom but one looked pretty solid and the other was a 10 player fold-away style), the cards were plastic. The chips, however, were these with slightly different denominations: http://cgi.ebay.com/500-CLAY-14g-POK...QQcmdZViewItem (Not for the faint of heart). They didn't stack that badly for plastic slugged chips, actually. But now I'm shuffling a Protege sample so all is right with the world again

Regards,

David.

Re: How to play this structure?

Wow, that structure is horrible! I'd definatly stay away from that tournament. If you have to play, just get lucky before round 3 and triple up.

Why is it that the people who know nothing about poker make blind structures for tournaments? Reasons like this is that I abandoned a Sunday home game in the winter, and in the summer, I'm going to another tonight, but only to deal (as I enjoy it). Too bad they use dice chips! AAAGGGHHH!

BTW: After looking at those pics you linked to, I had to quickly grab some Faux's and start shuffling......... still not clean!!!

that structure makes no sense. blinds start way too high and climb too high too fast. ugh looks like a poker superstars game to me (all-in central)

Yea, start at $0.25/$.50 Hold'em, in a hour and a half you'd be playing $10/$20 Hold'em, haha.

Re: How to play this structure?

Wow... that schedule looks like one of the freeroll bar games I play at from time to time. It's all about the luck of the deal.

I play at a regular home game that uses those chips. I'd prefer to use dice chips over those. He has a huge set (3000+) and they are very inconsistent in diameter. They aren't as slippery as dice chips, but his set has a ton of spinners that make stacks of more than 10 iffy.

My biggest complaint is that he insists on using the blue T50 chips and they're almost impossible to distinguish from the black T100s.

Chips aside, he does put on a pretty good tourney and has a great poker room with 4 tables.
