As if you care…but there’s not an 800 phone help line or anything, so here you go…
I believe that I played perfect poker Friday night. I rarely use that term, but honestly it was perfect. I was conservative yet aggressive at the right times and took down some big pots. This should have been televised so that I could be talk of the poker world at least for a day or so. I only entered pots I was going to win and I took down the first 12 hands in a row where I entered the pot.
This live tournament started with 138 players and 6K in chips each. By the time we got down to 17 players, I was chip leader with about 120K in chips. Blinds are at 3K/6K with a 500 ante – I’m second to act with KK in the hole. Raise to 24K…fold…fold…fold…the next player goes all in for roughly 35K…all folded around to me, and of course I call. Original all in player flips AA against my KK. I caught a King on the flop…then an ace on the turn. Oh well…35K gone…I’m still in good position and there are only 15 left at this point.
Three hands later…
I’m sitting in the small blind. The “all in” guy from my previous disaster announces that he is all in yet again. Fold…fold…fold…around to me. I look down and find KK again. After thinking for about 1/16th of a second…I call. He somehow again has AA against my KK. He had 69K in chips, I had 67K in chips…the rest is history.
So, my friends, that is how you go from chip leader to being out of the tournament (four positions from the money) after playing perfect poker. As frustrating as it is, I know that I played well and was just in the wrong place at the wrong time for about 3 minutes. Wish I had diarrhea or something so that I would have stepped away from the table. I was playing well and built a great table image. I should have at least cashed in this one and have reinforced that I am not mentally prepared to play poker for a living as I was ready to rape and pillage after my back-to-back pounding in this $40 tournament. If this happened at the WSOP they would have to lock me up and sedate me for many years!
I played 17 hands and lost only three. Unfortunately the last two were massive.
