My last three trips I have even ended up even or small loser on the night after getting up like that.
I know the easy answer is walk away when I tripple my buy in, but the hard truth is I drive an hr to play, and I have what some would call an addiction. I can't walk away after 90 minutes when I was planning on playing 9-12 hrs. I would rather learn how to better use it to my advantage. (please don't post any 800 #'s)
This doesn't seem to be a problem when I get a good chip lead in tournaments, and I can tend to keep the lead and bully a little more effectively.
Does anyone know of a good book for adjusting play strategies as your stack increases relative to the blinds and other players stacks? Any other advice?
Thanks in advance. |
your basic playing a short-stacked strategy at these tables, and it sounds like you understand it well. That is good and profitable, so you should take others advice and get up and take a break and change tables so you can keep short-stacking for the time being.
However, this is going to get tedious, and you won't ever become a better player unless you learn to play a deepstack. Your best bet is to pick up NLTAP as jojo suggested, and even more important would be practicing.... A LOT. I would suggest taking $200 and buying a Gift2Go gift card and depositing the money on pokerstars or Full Tilt. Play $25 NL full ring which will actually play remarkably similar to the cash games you are playing for much higher stakes live. Sit with the max buy-in ($25) which is 100bb and never let yourself get shortstacked. Play as much as possible and try to learn how to play with a good sized stack. When you win and increase your stack above the $25 at a table don't get up and leave but keep trying to increase your win and make your stack deeper. Even if you lose much of that $200, it will save you money that you would have lost at the casino, and it is about as cheap a way to learn the game as any other.
Also while playing visit
www.twoplustwo.com and read the small-stakes NL forums. The FAQ sticky at the top of the forums has a ton of great articles to start with, and everyday hundreds of posters put up hands for analysis and commentary. You can probably learn as much about playing low-stakes NL on there (for free!!!!) as you can anywhere else.
that's the best advice I can give.
gl at the tables!
