Tournament decision: Do I make this call on the river?

OK everyone, I played in a deep stack tournament hosted by uw85 today and I had to post about one hand in particular.

We are 4 handed and I am on the button, with Jojo in the SB and short stack in the BB. Blinds are 10/20k, and a 2k ante for a starting pot of 38k.

The average stack is 500k, with Jojo a bit short at 350k and me a little better than average. We've been playing 4 handed for nearly an hour. I have raised from the button/SB several times without showing and Jojo hasn't played back at me. This is the bubble, and 3rd pays very little (money back plus a bit extra).

It is folded to me on the button and I look down and see suited AK (diamonds). I raise to 70k with AK, Jojo calls and the BB folds. Pot is now 158k.

Flop comes 345 with two hearts and one diamond. We both check.

Turn comes a 6 of diamonds to put a heart and diamond draw out, along with the obvious straight. Jojo bets 70k and i call. The pot is now 298k.

The river brings an offsuit king. Jojo pushes all in for a bit more than 200k.

Maybe it was a mistake to check the flop with AK, but I am not looking for feedback on that as it was a decision I made based on the previous 6 hours of play.

What do you do on this river? Calling wouldn't bust me, but it would leave me with about 10x the bb.

I would almost have to say fold. Looks as though you both were on a SD. 6 hit giving jojo the straight with my guess 7 7. No way he has 7-2. My guess he is hold a pair of 7s.

Re: Tournament decision: Do I make this call on the river?

I think once you call 70k on the turn with AK high, you're forcing yourself to call the 200k on the river when you make top pair top kicker.

I don't know what what I would do, its tough. If I played the hand this way... I guess I call. He played it kinda like A6, aswell as some other hands you can beat [after that somewhat 'gin' card on the river].

Call and pray he only has a pair...

I think he would re-raise with 7-7, OOP and on a SS with only 15 [or so] x BB. I've never played with him, though...

Re: Tournament decision: Do I make this call on the river?

I leaned toward the pair 7 because of the raise on the 6. I thought about A7 as well, but the size of his bet made me think of the pair of 7s. He only called on the pre flop. Your A6 is a good call as well

Jojo probably has AK here as well.

Re: Tournament decision: Do I make this call on the river?

hmmm... if jojo loses this hand, he 's out. thats significant.

A lot of people tighten up play when its bubble time, some see it as an opportunity to apply aggression. they use the "who wants to go out on the bubble??!" mentality against tighter players.

jojo is playing for all his chips.

Calling 200k into a 498k pot isnt going to make you go broke. I like that.

What would +498k have done to your chip position? if you lose, are you shortest & if you win are you chip leader? this could sway my decision..

what scares me, is that both of you checked the flop? that gives me zilch info into a 158k pot. who is going to take control of this pot?

after that 6 comes - jojo is making the pot odds look just sweet enough to you. EX: check flop at a $158k pot, 6 hits its now $298k pot. and jojo has betting control.

there are so many hands here that will beat you. once the board hit 3456 - the k at the end may look good - i'd wager you're beat... 2 pair beats you, obv. straight, three of a kind (kkk?). tough one!

i'd fold. given this info. i think jojo snuck into a reasonable pot vs. AK, made a good bet at the end, and had it locked up.

i suck at tournies... but love deep stack tournies! so i am probably 100% wrong & he bluffed you off of AK with AK.

Re: Tournament decision: Do I make this call on the river?

I'm thinking he's got 2 pair or the straight and your beat. I wouldn't like to call with almost all of your chips with this hand / flop. I'm guessing you called and lost. GL sir!
