An odd hand from a $4/180

So I'm a bit confused on this hand. Villain (MP1) just joined the table after a knockout no more than 15 hands ago, and he's been playing pretty tight. In retrospect, I'm putting him on a medium ace, A-8 thru A-T, maybe a club draw. I personally was drawing for a ten to make broadway, and his bets were making the odds good, when you add in the implied odds (+10% or so), to draw to it.

Here is the hand:

Saw Flop | Saw Turn | Saw River | Saw Showdown | Won

PokerStars Game #8738992242: Tournament #44474246, $4.00+$0.40 Hold'em No Limit - Level IV (50/100) - 2007/03/04 - 18:27:24 (ET)
Table '44474246 10' 9-max Seat #5 is the button

UTG+1 - t4660
MP1 - t2960
MP2 - t930
MP3 - t1440
Button - t2105
SB - t4480
HERO - t2890
UTG - t3110

PREFLOP Level IV (50/100)
HERO is BB with J K
2 folds, MP1 calls t100, 3 folds, SB calls t50, HERO checks.

FLOP t300 (3 players)
Q A 6
SB checks, HERO checks, MP1 bets t100, 1 fold, HERO calls t100.

TURN t500 (2 players)
Q A 6 K
HERO checks, MP1 bets t100, HERO calls t100.

RIVER t700 (2 players)
Q A 6 K 7
HERO bets t400, 1 fold.

Results
HERO collected t700 from pot

Final Pot: t700

The bet on the river was a stone cold bluff, obviously, but it made sense to me to bet into that board. Donkey play or good bet?

Thanks,
Jason

Re: An odd hand from a $4/180

Mostly a donkey play, IMO. I'm folding to the flop bet for a two reasons: you're only drawing to 3 nut outs (:Tc puts a possible flush out there), and my pair outs might not be any good; the pot is really small - I don't care about losing it.

A few questions:
- Why not raise preflop? If the player has been tight, you could win a decent sized pot right there. Most players limp like this with small PPs and suited connectors, and will fold to a raise. Winning a pot like this preflop with a hand like KJs is a nice result.

- I don't mind you taking off a card on the flop, and calling a tiny bet on the turn in hopes for a free showdown, but why the heck are you betting the river? You won't get called by a worse hand, and not too many hands better than you will fold (a weak A might). My guess is he had a hand like 88 anyways.

I fold that flop, screw it... I'll find a better spot. Luckily you were in the pot with someone who's either weak or holding a weak hand.

Re: An odd hand from a $4/180

if you're going to play the hand that way then the river play is to check call a small bet and fold to a big one. If he's bluffing with nothing you want to induce another bluff with you're now second pair hand. If he has a decent hand you are probably getting called there to often for that bluff to be +EV.

I think what we have here is a case of "bluffing with the best hand". You thought that a big river bluff was the only way to win the hand, but really you only get called by hands that have you beat, and fail to induce a bluff from all of the hands that you have beat.

bad play IMHO.

I agree with TMJ. Personally I would have just folded the flop for the reasons already mentioned.
