Chips: 120 | | | Did I miss a value bet on the river? Or did I save myself 25 BBs?
Note, I'm pretty raw as a cash game player. Much more experience in tourney formats and just decided to switch it up and play a ring game instead. Table is fairly tight, not very loose aside from 1 or 2 specific players. The guy who calls my raise hasn't been loose except against those specific LAGGY players. Saw Flop | Saw Turn | Saw River | Saw Showdown | Won

Critique all streets if you like but mostly I'm curious if I should've bet on the river or not. I'll post the showdown later. |

I put the villain on JT and think that you catch up on the river when the 8 pairs the board giving you a better two pair. I don't blame you for checking behind on the river. If you know the player really well you can make a thin value bet, but in this spot I just want to showdown.
I like pf (I typically raise a little more), I like flop raise, I would call the turn, and then call the river unless checked to in which I would make a value bet of about 1/3rd of the pot. |

With a such a small preflop raise, is he capable of playing J9? If so, he hits top pair on the flop, then a gets a OESD on the turn...is he a player that could make these calls with these cards? |

I don't know why, but that turn bet by him immediately felt like a preventative bet, hoping to not get raised, his river check seemed like submission. I would have value bet the river, although I don't think you would have been called anyway. |

In my vast poker experience, a low stakes player calling a raise on the flop and then betting out on the turn indicates that they just caught up. I have yet to see someone that wasn't a total LAG do this and show down something worse than two pair. |

However, in this case, his turn bet was only .25 larger than his flop bet. What makes this strange is a lead out bet on the turn after a call of a bet that was more than 2.5 times his flop bet. I agree he must like the turn card, but if it helped him so much, why would he lead with a check on the river? Unless it is J,10...and he hit his 2 pair, and when the coordinated 8 hit the river, he was worried about a flush OR trips. |

I have yet to see someone that wasn't a total LAG do this and show down something worse than two pair. | this is my thinking. if he had turned a big hand (a set with TT or a straight) he would probably go for a big checkraise because fish loooove to slowplay. However when fish donk they usually improved their hand, but not to a ton of strength. this is why I put him specifically on JT for a turned to pair. It would make sense for his pf play, his flop bet and call, his turn donk and then just call (two pair doesnt look huge when the board has an obvious straight draw on board and you could have flopped a set). I think we were a dog on the turn but caught up when the board paired on the river. You could value bet when he checks behind, but I don't like opening the betting to get blown off the hand if this guy has some crazy bluff in him or is slowplaying a monster.
so.....what did villain have? |
