Chips: 5,839 | | | KK in SB, what do you do? This is more of a theoretical question then specific hand related but here's the scenario. Its based on real hand but just curious what other folks do.
Its .50/1 NLHE and you are in the SB with KK, the BU makes it $3 after its folded around to him.
Do you just smooth call? Do you raise and if so, how much?
Stack sizes: Hero $75 and villian $150.
For sake of argument, the villian is a 41/14 (VP$/PFR) over 40 or so hands.
Based on your answer and assuming you both see the flop, assume its Qc Qd 5c. |

That's still a good flop for your hand, pot it.

Chips: 17,166 | | | Re: KK in SB, what do you do? you want to raise to build the pot. your raise will go a long way towards getting your stack in (in case of a safe flop).
for instance...if you just call, the pot is $6. flop bet is 6, turn bet is 18, and river bet is $50 (assuming you bet the pot on every street).
if you reraise to $8, then the flop bets is 16, and basically all in on the turn.
considering how loose this guy is, i think you want to work on getting it in. |

Chips: 1,861 | | | Re: KK in SB, what do you do? don't forget, by simply calling $2.50 you'll give the BB 3.5:1 to call. IMO you should be calling a wide range in your BB if you're given 3.5:1.

RR PF to $10
C/R on the flop if you think he's going to open. C/R about 3 to 4X his bet, or open yourself for the pot. |

What about over reraising to feign a steal or resteal? Something like making it $15 to go. Any thoughts on that? |

Chips: 5,912 | | | Re: KK in SB, what do you do? uber loose button opens up I definitely raising because he'll call with a bunch of stuff we have dominated. I'm probably raising to $8-9 so I am giving him enticing 2-1 odds.
I lead at that pot, unless I have stats showing him to be super aggro or a big bluffer. If I am pretty sure he'll bet if checked to on the flop, I'll check to him and let him lead out so I can c/r and get it in on the turn.
how did the hand play out? |

Chips: 5,839 | | | Re: KK in SB, what do you do? In the actual hand, I made it $16 to go as I tried to feign blowing him out of the pot if he were on a steal. He did call which meant he had a hand of some sort. I checked the flop to further represent a steal gone bad, he bet $17 (1/2 pot) and I C/R all in which he called. He turns over JJ but my KK held up; actually caught the 3rd one on the turn not that I needed it.
I've tried this play a few times but its probably the only time I've gotten paid on it. Normally, I probably make it $7-10 to go depending on what I think of my opponent.
Anyone think of a situation where you would smoothcall here? Maybe against an uber-tight raiser in an earlier position. |

If he has AK or similar, he may call a bet now, but won't on the flop if it's ragged. I'd rather win a $20 pot than a $6 pot if it ends there. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
