Every straight contains either a 5 or a T. So if the board does not show a 5 or a T, then ask yourself if an opponent who holds a 5 or a T has a straight. If not, then you don't have to worry about straights with that particular board. |

For ring games, there are a few guys who will pay anything to see a flop - those are the ones I worry about. I played recently and noticed that the flops were extremely draw heavy (just the way the night was going). I focused on position of the players who were calling raises. Late position callers were getting the odds to see a flop with almost any 2 cards.
No.1: If I think they are drawing, I try to make them pay to see additional cards
No.2: If I get called, I slow down a bit, but not show weakness
No.3: If I get raised, I see what I have and make a determination to reraise or fold |

i.e.:
a) Any second card of 2-5 or T-K produces a potential gutshot with the Ace
b) if both the other cards are in the 6-9 range it will produce a potential gutshot.

to me, that's how I immediately rule out the straights...
look for 5 or T on board, if not, then do my opponents have a 5 or T?
pretty simple if you ask me... |

But here is a trivia question: if you hold 5 and 10 in your hand, no matter what the board is, what straight can you NEVER make. |

w/ a 5 and 10 in your hand, you should be able to make a straight with a very helpful board.... | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
