I think your opponent blew the pot by not betting when the ace hit the board...he showed strength untill an over card hit then he went limp.......

Oh, villian DEFINITELY butchered this hand worse than hero. If he was truly scared of the Ace, the only move to make is to bet. He should only check if he has two pair or better and is convinced hero will take a stab at the pot with a single pair, intending to raise (probably all-in).
