Nut str8 vs double flush draw

This hand happened at the last home tourney. I actually posted the basic synopsis in another thread (which gives away the results) but I wanted to see how the pros here would play it.

It's a 21 man tourney at a friend's place. Starting stacks are approximately $12000. Blinds 10/20. There are three 7-handed tables and I'm at one with a couple of guys I've never played with before. The other 4 guys I've played with plenty of times and have a decent handle on their game.

So its only been 5 hands in and I'm dealt T9o UTG. Everybody has been friendly so far, so I decide to limp in and hope for a family pot. Two callers behind me and both blinds are in.

Flop is . Not a bad flop but I'm going to need some help to improve. It checks around and the turn brings . BINGO! I've got the nut straight. Lets see if I can milk some change out of this.

Blinds check and I bet $80 into $100 pot. One fold. New guy reraises to $180. SB folds. BB cold calls.

I know I want to reraise it but how much??

100 + 80 + 180 + 180 = 540 in the middle

to drive someone out here, that is assuming they know what they're doing, then you really need to fire back in a big way.

so if he pushed your 80 to 180, you need to put out 500-600 out there to drive out a set or a flush draw or two pair with a draw. however, since 600, in addition to your limp and turn bet, would add up to 700 total for you--- which is over 50% of your stack, then you can't possibly make that play.

I would push all-in here and hope a hand like 5-9 calls me.

I would push in this situation, but don't live by my advice, I'm not exactly what they call a "winning" player

Gun beat me to the punch...

My initial thought process was the same. You have to put a pot sized bet out and that puts more than 50% of your stack in the pot. I would push all-in and if I were up against two flush draws I would want at least one of them to fold so I would be up against less suck outs against my nut straight.

I guess this is repetitive but I agree with the previous posts. Put all of your chips in the middle! I always doubt myself when it comes to figuring the odds but I believe that if they call you with a flush draw they are making a mistake. The pot is not offering them the proper odds to call. (which is not to say that the poker gods won't reward your opponent's poor play!).

Actually there would be 460 in the pot before hero's raise:

100+80+180+ 100 to call = 460

The most outs possible to beat you is 9, about 4:1 there.

Pop it to 600, that's 420 for him to call into a pot of 880 and he's not getting near the odds to call with any draw.

Pop it to 500 and that's 320 to call into 780...same deal.

I think the bigger point is that any 2 pair/set hand isn't folding and an aggressive player isn't folding a strong flush draw, so the best value is probably to push here and hope for a call.

You have the nuts here and tourney poker is all about accumulating... I don't want villian to fold any hand here. If he draws out, he draws out.

Thumbs up Re: Nut str8 vs double flush draw

I would have to push all in so you don't get sucked out on by a flush.. Make them pay for their draw...

Re: Nut str8 vs double flush draw

I'll echo the responses - you gotta push to make the flush draw expensive.

BTW if it were me - I would push, get called, a spade would hit on the river and I lose to 2 3

Re: Nut str8 vs double flush draw

no there was 540 in the middle. BB cold called the raise and reraise. Push is probably your best bet. Unless you have these players totally nailed and think you can laydown on the river. Tough to ever recommend getting your stack in when the blinds are still 10-20, but theres a lot of money out there so whether they fold or call you are still in good shape.
