Pre-flop I called the raise because I was getting good pot odds. On the flop I knew there was a good chance I was beat, but he could have been stealing or just playing QK too, so I called. On the turn I knew I was good, so my $5 bet was just to get paid off. The river fold was not easy, but in the end I'm happy with my check-fold with that ace.
Should I have played differently? Folded the flop? Fold pre-flop? |

You were is a tough position with this hand... I mean you were beat on the flop, turn you were ok and then made a great laydown when you knew/thought you were beat. Anyone else?? |

Chips: 18,540 | | | Re: Good laydown - but should I have folded on the flop? fold preflop. "but i had odds" is the battle-cry of the loose player, but the simple fact is that KQo is gonna cost you big hands and win you small ones.
if your hand is best on the flop, you probably take it down with your bet. if you're outkicked (as here) then you're in bad shape. much moreso than in limit, these trap hands are danger.
all that being said, the flop call isn't so bad, and the fold is very disciplined of you. |

Chips: 1,925 | | | Re: Good laydown - but should I have folded on the flop? I play a lot of hands on the 25c tables - something like 35% of them going to the flop. I'm pretty loose/agressive here. In tournaments of course I'd never play KQo in an early position.
So was it a bad call pre-flop? Why can Daniel Negreanu play this hand UTG but I can't? |

I think the C/R denotes more power here than the weak flop bet (1.25 into a 3.35 pot). If his bet is a std c-bet and he missed the flop, he probably folds to the C/R. If he calls the C/R, you have a better idea where you are at. With your weak flop bet, he will probably raise on principal whether or not he hit the flop.
As for the river nice fold and probably difficult to do. |

So was it a bad call pre-flop? Why can Daniel Negreanu play this hand UTG but I can't? | from what i can tell from GSN, daniel plays lots of hands and...pays dearly. it's just not a very good hand. and from upfront, you should be playing only your best.
i think you should be much MORE likely to play this hand in this position in a tournament, if you're shortstacked and feeling the heat from the blinds.
normal circumstances? new table, don't know how it's playing, or if it's playing within the bounds of what i'd consider normal (an average mix of a couple strong players, a couple maniacs, and a few stations). | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
