| New Venetian Tournament two weeks ago, the venetian added a new tournament to their schedule, with a fantastic structure. this could quickly become one of the best weekly tournaments in vegas if it grows big enough.
Saturday @ 12pm
$500+40+10 (buy-in+fee+staff bonus)
$10,000 starting chips
40 minute levels
1.) 25/50
2.) 50/100
3.) 100/200
4.) 150/300
5.) 200/400
6.) 300/600
7.) 400/800
8.) 500/1,000. . . .
antes kick in at level 4. the blinds continue to increase gradually, with no real "POP" at any one level. there's a break after every 3 levels (2 hours).
the first week, they had 41 players. the guys in the money cut a deal at around 8pm. last week was the ventian $500k freeroll, so this tournament wasn't scheduled. i talked to the poker room manager yesterday, and he said that he's been getting a ton of positive feedback in the past two weeks, and expects to be getting 6-7 tables consistently.
this seems like a great tournament for those who want to get experience with the longer, deepstack structures of the wsop ME, WSOP circuit, WPT, ETP, etc without having to win/fork-over $5,000 - $10,000 in cash to play.
i'll be playing this $500 deepstack tournament for the first time this saturday, so i can probably provide more info next week. i played two tournaments there in early July, both of which were well-run with no problems. they do allow late buy-ins, which i could care less about, but i know some people dislike.
mods - this is not really a strategy post, but this seemed to be the best place for it - feel free to move.

NOTE: for the chip junkies (ie: all of us) - the venetian uses solid hotstamped TH&C's for their tournaments. crisp and new, with a very nice, detailed hotstamp. standard colors. |
