Help with a hand....

here's some pre-op to the hand that comes...

local tournament...
starting stacks 1500...

after about 1/2 hour of play i'm at about $4000 in chips....

old asian guy is like $6000 in chips.....

i'm in middle position with AA (red)....blinds are currently 25-50 and i raise to 300.....
everyone folds to old asian guy in the SB....he calls the 300.....

flop comes 696.....
asian man bets 400.....
i raise to 1200.....
old man goes all in.....

......what do you do?

.
.
.
..
.
I called putting him on 2 pair.....
sho'nuff...he had 79 of clubs.....
now i momentarily contemplated folding coz he was larger stack...but i put him on a weaker hand than i...

he hit running clubs to flush out.

so i went bye bye....

did i mis-step?

Re: Help with a hand....

You went in with the best hand.
Calling a 6xBB raise with 97s is definately not something I would have done.

Re: Help with a hand....

nah, you did fine man. Scary though that he'd push that flop. I seriously doubt that the same kind of player is going to push back at you with open trips. He'll milk it.

Re: Help with a hand....

It's poker. if he has a 6 or 99 here, I'll live with it. He's the SB making a 6 more likely than normal, and honestly I would definitely lead a 6 into you in this spot. The push is a bit much, but you are in with about 1/2 your stack.

You got unlucky.

Re: Help with a hand....

I can't decide if that's a brilliant play by your opponent or a ridiculous one. If it's a bluff, it's a good spot to do it, the board looks scary and is unlikely to have hit you. Plus, he has you covered, and is banking on the fact you don't want to leave yet. Still, like has been said, if he had a 6, would he really push all-in there?

Since I am incapable of folding pocket A's, I would have called there too. You are a 85% favorite after the flop, and got very unlucky.

Re: Help with a hand....

Same here. I would have called as well.

That's why I finished last week's tourney in second to last place. Just couldn't lay down those bullets.

Re: Help with a hand....

i am grateful to all your advice....

as i've been really bangin my head lately as if i should've done the conservative move and folded to stay in the game.....

but had i won, i would've smooth sailed into the payday....

and yes, i figured also, if he'd had a 6 he'd let me lose it all slowly.....anyhoot....gracias.
