From here on out, i refer to AK as Martina Hingis

b/c, in fact, in wins quite a bit more than it's share:

against a random hand
equity (%) win (%) tie (%)
Hand 1: 65.7787 % 64.93% 00.85% { AKs, AKo }
Hand 2: 34.2213 % 33.37% 00.85% { random }

against two random hands
equity (%) win (%) tie (%)
Hand 1: 48.8705 % 47.95% 00.92% { AKs, AKo }
Hand 2: 25.5737 % 24.68% 00.89% { random }
Hand 3: 25.5558 % 24.66% 00.89% { random }

Against a loose raising range:
equity (%) win (%) tie (%)
Hand 1: 54.4330 % 48.46% 05.98% { AKs, AKo }
Hand 2: 45.5670 % 39.59% 05.98% { 77+, A9s+, KQs, AJo+ }

against a maniacal raiser:
equity (%) win (%) tie (%)
Hand 1: 59.4804 % 56.73% 02.75% { AKs, AKo }
Hand 2: 40.5196 % 37.77% 02.75% { 22+, A9s+, KTs+, QTs+, JTs, ATo+, KTo+, QTo+, JTo }

against a loose raiser and a loose caller (ps, these numbers are why you should often reraise with ak, instead of just calling)
equity (%) win (%) tie (%)
Hand 1: 35.9401 % 32.02% 03.92% { AKs, AKo }
Hand 2: 32.6692 % 29.89% 02.78% { 77+, ATs+, KJs+, AJo+, KQo }
Hand 3: 31.3906 % 29.34% 02.05% { 22+, ATs+, KJs+, AJo+, KJo+ }

against a tight-a$$ raiser (if he's this damn tight, you can consider playing it carefully).
equity (%) win (%) tie (%)
Hand 1: 43.5184 % 36.39% 18.16% { AKs, AKo }
Hand 2: 56.4816 % 52.64% 18.16% { JJ+, AQs+, AKo }

Maria Sharapova may be a better 'looks good' hand...

Re: From here on out, i refer to AK as Martina Hingis

It is interesting that you posted this today. I made a play last night based on instinct and wonder what you think.

Sorry I don't have the hand history.

.10/.20 blinds, 6 max table, we both have about $20

Button: Me with
Folded to me, I raise to $0.60
SB raises to $12

The game has been pretty loose aggressive but I've never seen a monster raise like that.

I think for a second and push all in.

He calls and shows

Board comes

or something like that and I take it down.

Guy: "how can you call that?"
Me: "That raise didn't seem right"
Guy: "I meant to bet $2"
Me: "I didn't know that"
Guy: "how can you call that?"
Me: "I figured I was at worst a coin flip unless you had AA/KK"
Guy: "this isn't a tournament"

I figured he was either trying to buy it since I was raising the button a lot or he had a small pair.

Either way, unless he has AA or KK, I'm at worst a coin flip to win the pot.

I felt a good amount of the time he would have a worse hand.

Yes it is high variance, but I figure I am slightly +EV.

What's your thoughts?

you missed the point. i'm calling it hingis b/c it looks good and wins quite a bit. the anna kournikova thing makes no sense...
anyhow, no matter what wikipedia says, ak is not anna kournikova...that's KQs...and it's because it looks great but doesn't play very well.

I think the idea is that people often over play this hand and it does not mean that it is an automatic winner. People often lose with this hand by not playing it correctly.

against a random hand
equity (%) win (%) tie (%)
Hand 1: 65.7787 % 64.93% 00.85% { AKs, AKo }
Hand 2: 34.2213 % 33.37% 00.85% { random }

This means preflop AK is only slightly less than 2 to one odds. With odds like that, going all in is a horrible move.

I don't mind the play at all, given the read. I think I can help one aspect of your game today though, table chat:
