Chips: 7,134 | | | Effort in limit Hold'em cash games. I hadn't played a stud cash game for like a year and a half so I decided last week I'd start again and I read and read and pretended like I was remembering the stuff I was reading and would actually use it and then I started playing. Then I got this bonus offer from Party and, since their .50/1 stud games have a friggin' .25 ante, I'm not going to clear it playing stud. So now I'm playing hold'em to clear the bonus and I can't believe how little effort I use to play limit hold'em. After I play stud for an hour I feel like my brain is going to explode. After I play hold'em for an hour I feel like I've been sitting around for an hour.
So my question for you is how much effort do you put into playing limit hold'em? Is it really as mindless and boring as I now suspect it is or do I just have an especially bad work ethic? I feel like I could probably spank it while I play hold'em and still make a couple bucks just because every decision is the same every hand, more or less. Hey, that's actually not a bad idea.
That was just me pretending that I've never done that before. |

it's a game of squeaking out that one extra value bet every 25 minutes.
that being said, it has it's place. i don't always like crapping my pants waiting for the river card. |

Why do you think pros that are grinding it out are playing high limit games? |

Why do you think pros that are grinding it out are playing high limit games? | Well high limit is totally different. People actually think and pay attention.
I'm talking about playing like .5/1 up to 3/6. You just do the same thing over and over again because no one thinks about what you're doing or what you've done. Which actually works out great for me because I never pay attention to what anyone is doing. Everyone in the CT tournaments jokes around on the forums here about how they're so tight or so loose, and I have no clue if they're being sarcastic or not.
But I can only get excited playing AKs so many times before it gets boring. |

in CO, the max is $5, so we play 2/5...it's just a chance to donk it up...something to do before and after a tourney...
I've even tried playing the $5/5 table, and it just gets worse!
I hate AK in limit poker...but you gotta play it right? |

Personally, I find short handed limit games to be pretty good at holding my attention. SH you have to pay a lot more attention, and limit has plenty of room to enjoy ****ing with someone. I play mostly 1/2 6max. The other day there was a $50 pot being contested 3 ways, which is plenty high enough to hold my interest (in one hand).
I also remember a couple of games, one in which I kept ending up in a blind battle with a guy who was just hapless at it, and one in which I had a pretty good mind game going with another good player . It was fun both to constantly take money from the poor sap in the SB, and to play with a guy who was decent (~ same level as me).
SH, if your reads are 'SLA' and not 'SLA who will play back at a steal on the flop but fold to aggression on the flop', you'll lose. And since the variance is worse, you lose it faster.
